Very genuine review of an ex good hotel that’s rapidly gone down hill.
It’s really gone down hill.
Genuine review here, I’ve been staying at this hotel for about 8 years. Multiple times throughout the year, it’s my very last. I am going to explore Hotel Victoria or Hatfield or the Premier Inn.
Wherry has deteriorated quickly. The hotel is extremely dated. The wallpaper falling off walls, bathrooms absolutely reek of sewerage, mould.. Our carpets in the bedrooms have huge holes in them and very much stained beyond the point where it’s just taking the pi**. They need to be replaced for sure. The stairs are similar too. So i’m assuming other rooms are the same.
Staff have no idea what’s going on. Night porter (London/Essex Accent) told me EV charging through a window he’s seen before, but Luke / sue said this is not true - Not sure why I would of brought it into context if this was not true.
I paid extra for a dog, but regardless i’m paying more than other customers without a dog, so why should I put up with massive holes in carpets, mould, filthy bathrooms and a terrible upkeep of the hotel. This is a budget hotel right now yet charging £90-£110 a night. I assume there is rooms that allow dogs which are located on the front. If so, these should be cheaper.. Extremely loud, dirty yet they are charged the same as the rest of the hotel plus a pet surcharge… Things really aren’t adding up.
I believe wherry hotel should definitely have EV charging regardless.
Breakfast is atrocious. All frozen food. Use to come here when it was decent all you can eat. Fresh good fruit, wide selection of continental. Now it’s not worth waking up for. Head to the Old Diary opposite.
Fruit was past its best life, the breakfast bap was definitely frozen sausages and pure fat bacon.
Croissants were packaged and not even fresh/ freshly baked. Surely you can see that this hotel and service is on a very very downward spiral, which is going down rather quickly.
Rats outside the front of the hotel where the bins are next to the kitchen doors. I put some dog poop in their bins. Which are totally overflowing, have sea-gulls breaking bags open, and a lot of food on the floor on the carpark. I suspect that no doubt if that’s how it is always, they definitely attract rats.
And not frequently topped up or refreshed (eggs were cremated).
Sue is extremely rude and seems to have an attitude. Restaurant staff were great as usual.
Mattresses feel like they have zero springs. Nice duvets however. Water pressure is very bad with showers also.
Overall. I won’t return and wouldn’t recommend, Wherry really need to invest in this hotel and make it value for money. Currently it’s poor.
Going off other reviews people are saying it’s good budget hotel. This is not budget prices, premier inn/ Travel-lodge are charging £35-£60 a night which comes with a sleep guarantee.
I’ll say it again. There is so much better and value for money. Hopefully if this hotel reads this review and gets back into gear, as it was once upon a time a nice hotel. Mr and my partner are ever so shocked of how bad it’s got. I’ve been coming here for 8+ years since I left the town for University and visiting family 2/3...
Read moreWe stay at the Wherry once or twice a year to visit family who live in Lowestoft. Although we usually love the staff and hotel, this stay was a little disappointing we were in the dreaded 108 room. A smaller room with a non windowed bathroom (that definitely needs some tlc) the shower rail wobbles and is held on by a small block of wood, the toilet is a vacuum type that will wake up the undead, the bath sealant is going black in places and the bath panel looks ugly with layers of silicone. You have to be a contortionist to be able to reach the loo roll holder as it is situated behind you whilst balancing on an ill fitting cheap plastic toilet seat that is not designed for the toilet. The toilet paper is 1 ply which disintegrates as soon as any bodily fluids touch it - ewee! Saving Grace nice soap. The headboard/bed backs onto the lift wall so the clunking and banging will wake you up from approximately 7am (possibly earlier) and you won’t be able to sleep until well after 11pm, along with the bottle throwing competition (which staff can be the loudest am or pm) of emptying the bottles in the outside bins. Duvet very thin and no choice of pillows, all very firm and springy. A nice touch having a fan but it was filthy with dust as was inside the radiator. The side light lampshades were also very wobbly, as was the mirror on the wall. We borrowed an iron and ironing board, which quite frankly had seen better days, the cover torn and so thin it left the wire imprint on our clothing. The view from this room is dismal some old wires (that were there last year) a rusty old stairway and the car park. Considering the hanging baskets are beautiful outside, some planters would be a nice addition up there. We skipped breakfast the first day and went out wish we had done the same the second day! Dirty plates, bowls and tea cups had to sift through a few to find a clean plate. Didn’t use the bowls as we opted for a cooked breakfast. All 4 teacups on table were tea stained. A small pot of tea put on the table and a cup of coffee poured. Had to scrounge milk from another table that were finishing as the waitress informed us that her shift had finished and was going home. Breakfast items were cold and bread for toasting had run out. Very disappointing to be honest, so much so that we decided not to return for the carvery later that day. The only silver lining was Ashley who kindly called us the day before arrival to inform us of a wedding being held on Saturday and gave a small discount for the inconvenience. We paid £275 for two nights instead of £315 but that really is still in my opinion a high end price for what was not a high end room. Ps save some money by getting rid of the tea pigs tea and the coffee bags - both yuk and invest in some 2...
Read moreI booked the hotel as a special treat for Saturday night of Valentines weekend after reading what was included... ...1 Night's Bed & Breakfast Stay, A Bottle of Prosecco to enjoy in the room, Luxury Chocolates to sweeten the moment, Beautifully Arranged Linen Swans & Petals for an enchanting atmosphere. Whether you're celebrating love, romance, or simply a moment of tranquillity, this package offers everything you need for a truly unforgettable getaway.|| Cost £135.00||||After booking, I then recieved an email saying to be aware they were holding a private function during our stay. ||||||I thought the hotel might be busier than usual but I wasn't expecting the constant thumping of a disco keeping a wedding party entertained until what must have been around midnight. After finally getting off to sleep, I was then awakened by a neighbouring guest going in and out her room with no consideration for anyone staying near by. The following morning it looked like someone had been sick in the corridor and an attempt had been made to clear it up, no doubt the reason for the noise....we went down for breakfast and then back to our room before checking out. By the time we left it looked like housekeeping had been and cleaned the carpet properly.||||The pros of this hotel: nice room with balcony, the extras included with the price , the location, the staff and the breakfast.||||The cons. The private function and the inconsiderate guest.||||I realise all businesses need to make money and wedding parties are a good way of doing this but there needs to be someway of making it less bothersome to other hotel guest. For instance stating on the Web site that they hold discos so if its peace and quiet your after, this may not be for you. It was far from the tranquil stay they advertised and an email alerting you of a private function after you've booked isn't enough especially as the terms of my booking were ;Terms:Full pre-payment required at the time of booking. Please note, no changes or cancellations are permitted once booked.||||As to the inconsiderate guest, I guess all hotels get those on occasions but having no way to contact reception from the room doesn't help. We had around a ten minute wait for someone to arrive at reception to check us in when we arrived so I doubt even with a phone the response would have been very quick.||||It's such a shame as it did spoil what otherwise would have been a nice weekend. I therefore wouldn't book to stay again even though it's a nice hotel in a lovely place on...
