The location is beautiful especially if you have the view of the water as we did , our room had everything we needed although a fridge would have been useful and necessary these days especially on a longer stay. Our room was very clean and decorated in keeping with the age of the hotel. The bathroom was great especially the shower which had really good pressure. The staff were helpful, polite and friendly at all times . The food was a mixed bag, The carvery was edible but not the best , dry meat ( apart from beef) and low stock on veg when we’d been served the meat and had to wait , cabbage cut in huge great chunks and under cooked. A fantastic Yorkshire and lovely cauliflower cheese….dessert , jam sponge pudding was cold and the jam part was a sour strawberry fruity sauce not jam . The breakfast was really great on both mornings and staff could not do more for us and our dietary needs. Thank you The second meal we had was really great, a group had all different things off the menu steaks and Burgers and was thoroughly enjoyable including desserts. Which were waffles and sundaes and the bisscoff dessert. The wine was great as was the beer and cider . Lots of entertainment going on both nights . The lift was playing up on our visit which was a bit of a nuisance when carrying things up that said we were happy to use the stairs as we’re able . The smell from the gents wafted up the stairs and was quite unpleasant which is a shame .probably a drain issue and air freshener would sort and make it a more palatable experience before entering the dining room I will say the Cleaners worked their socks off , staff were wiping down and washing over constantly but whatever is used leaves a sticky residue and a feeling it’s not clean, maybe change the product as we were even sticking to freshly washed floors ….this doesn’t help you in anyway and certainly doesn’t reflect how hard the staff work to keep things clean in a busy environment Thank you to staff for their great attitude during our stay .

The hotel itself is an attractive building in a great setting next to the Oulton Broad. There is plenty of parking for both cars and boats and there is access for wheelchairs. There are safety procedures in place for social distancing and provision of hand sanitizer. The staff greeting you and taking orders, are polite but there is definitely a 'going through the motions, processing the order' kind of feel about it. Didn't really feel very welcoming and there are not many smiles about the place. The menu, although quite big, had no gluten free options that I could see, there were 2 vegetarian burgers (1 vegan) and 1 vegetarian pasta option for the main meals. Not a big choice for vegetarians at all. The food was ordered at the bar with a table number and we were forewarned of a 30 minute wait. The order was wrong on 2 out of the 4 meals and 3 of the meals were reminiscent of my old school dinners in 1989. Very processed and out of packet affair which wasn't great. The vegetarian burger wasn't too bad. The only non alcoholic drinks other than standard soft drinks, were becks blue or a bottled cider. There were no decaffeinated hot drinks available at all. Desserts were better and what had originally drawn us in. Large sundaes and good slices of cake or pudding on offer. Overall the experience did not leave us overly impressed and we are unlikely to go back.

Can’t comment on the hotel…. as we went for food . The roast was very nice . But the man cutting the meat was very rude, I asked for beef he just said give me your ticket . My son had a burger and fries his burger was so sad looking wish I took a photo of it …. all over done where it was warmed up …. Beans were over heated and stuck together . I told a waitress called carrie that this was not acceptable she just looked at me. No sorry to hear that nothing didn’t care one bit and just walked off to talk about us to another colleague . The desserts came out and I’ll post a photo of it £18 for the puddings and we didn’t touch them just walked out . The custard had oil of some kind underneath it look at the photo . I left and called the manager and he did seem a nice guy and said sorry about the experience we received seemed genuine . If this hotel said we could have a free meal I’d never return due to the staff . 0/10 I give this place . Views are amazing tho . £100 down the drain 👎🏻

Beautiful place and beautiful surroundings but carvery isn't up to much. I have been here many times before and always had the carvery but I don't think I'll bother next time. I'm a vegetarian so they do offer you a veggie tart or nut roast which veggie gravy which is good but the vegetables and the couliflower cheese and the Yorkshire puddings are always dried out hard and crunchy from being under the lights for so long. Myself and my family came in for about four o clock the same as many other families with young children and we're all greeted by this dried out food. There is no excuse for this at the busiest time. The vegetables should be filled with new ones. Definitely not worth the prices we paid! My advice is if your going there for something to eat choose a menu option never never choose a carvery!!! .

Only here for music and dancing was a great night and I like the fact that no drinks allowed onthe dance floor . ( just need a bigger sign to say so like one above the stage in big letters lol ) would save a lot of hassel for the staff
