We were a party of 6 and when we walked in and asked if we could put another table onto a 4 seat one we were told we could but the Woman who seemed to be in charge, didn't seem pleased and we weren't helped with the task. Beverley was very busy but this was the only cafe with availability for 6, now we know why!. The food and drinks were ordered and I was asked to pay in the craft shop as I was paying by card. The lady behind the counter was in conversation with a customer/friend and didn't stop that chat whilst I handed her the bill and proffered my card. The bill was almost ยฃ60 and i was handed the proof of payment without any eyeconract having been made nor any break in their conversation. When the food arrived, (which took a long time considering it was all sandwiches and the cafe was nearly empty), it was awful. My tuna mayo on brown had the thinnest scraping of filling on a mass produced thin sliced , stale bread. My daughters 3 cheese panini tasted strange and some of the cheese wasn't melted. The 2 cheese toasties came, looking sad and thin, on a plate with no garnish on. But mother and sister did like them. The other 2 paninis were ok but again sparse on the filling. Overall a particularly uninspiring lunch which we won't be rushing back to repeat. We were still hungry but didn't want to order deserts if they were anything...
ย ย ย Read moreMy partner and I have been coming here for 3-4 months, at least once a week. Unfortunately, after today's experience, we won't be going back. I ordered two decaf lattes with oat milk. After waiting nearly fifteen minutes, our drinks were brought to us, only to find that after tasting the latte, it wasn't oat milk, but normal milk. I am lactose intolerant and could have been ill had I not realised. I told the young girls at the tills, and they said they'd make another one, but we weren't given priority, and the situation wasn't taken seriously. We'd already waited fifteen minutes for the first lot to arrive, so we got a refund instead. The girl who handed the money back to my partner more or less slammed it into his hands after sighing like it was more of an inconvenience on her part and not ours. It's sad really, as I'd previously recommended this place to our friends, but after today, I'll be telling them to...
ย ย ย Read moreCurrently under partial lockdown I don't really feel I can give a full review of this charming cafe and craft shop. However, I CAN say that the staff are helpful and the current take-away only service is always friendly and pleasant.
There is little in the way of vegan foods (a salad sandwich?), but this may change - I certainly see a willingness by the cafe to adapt.
The craft shop is much-needed locally and stock is unusual and, occasionally, unique. Maybe they are carrying too much in such a small shop? However, once again this will change as Crafty becomes more attune to local tastes and desires.
To sum up, I see success on the way for Crafty, if only from the potential patrons gathered at the window, discussing their knitting needs.
Great fun environment with plenty of potential for benefiting...
