Archipelagos — Restaurant in England

Fantastic little place. We called Archipelagos very last minute and late on Sunday after @Fishmekan fortunately mixed up our anniversary meal booking. Despite being almost full, they manged to find us a table. I say fortunately as the meal we had in the end from Archipelagos was excellent. The staff here are very friendly, even excitable, which makes the atmosphere authentically Greek.

Clearly this restaurant is loved by its regulars and the regulars are loved back, even spoilt, in equal measure. On the warm bank holiday weekend that I went, sitting outside with the warm sea breeze, I almost felt transported to a Greek Island Taverna, being treated to a very decent meal. The Sea Bass was very fresh, perfectly cooked and delicately seasoned. The Kleftiko is also very good too, if not a bit heavy. As the Sea Bass comes with a generous helping of chips and the Kleftiko with rice, both with a large salad, we didn't really need the starters, but were pleased not to have missed out. The Taramasalata was arguably the best I've had and the Houmas coming in a close second to that in terms of exciting my taste buds.

It was not too expensive for the quality, two courses, including drinks came to £50 between two people. I highly recommend the Sea Bass, we had a wonderful evening and will certainly be back on our next...

I really loved dining at Archipelagos, I have lived in Hove all my life and somehow never tasted the amazing food at Archipelagos. I will definitely be returning. The food was amazing and the three of us shared about 8 plates of food from the 'Vegetarian' menu, it was a tapas style and I really loved it.

We had houmous, tzatziki, pitta bread, garlic bread, two greek salads, deep fried feta, and vine leaves. This was a good mixture of food for the three of us for lunch, and came out to around £11 each overall. That is a really good deal for the amount and quality of food that is being offered.

One server was lovely, I commented how I didn't even like tzatziki but I liked THIS tzatziki, and I was surprised to find that the server had also heard this from somebody earlier on as well - and he thinks it is because the chef who makes the tzatziki is in love! Because all his food he has recently made has been amazing since he met a woman. True or not, it was really lovely for the server to engage with our table like this and it was just something different and nice.

I really do recommend Archipelagos and will be returning. Very good vegetarian menu. My only gripe is that the greek salad was slightly lackluster, I think that different or better quality tomatoes would help it by a mile! The feta was creamy...

This was our second visit to Archipelagos. The first was superb; this visit was disappointing. The restaurant was full outside and in, but there were only two members of the waiting staff. Our starters were excellent. They did not all arrive at the same time but the gap between each item's arrival was short. When the main courses arrived, two were cold. We sent them back. The waitress offered no apology. Understandably it took some time for a replacement course to be cooked from scratch. By the time the new main courses arrived, the other members of our party had finished eating, and the chips had gone cold. No apology was offered for the problem with the mains. We raised a concern with the manager and asked for our bill to be reduced. The waitress took very little interest in us, and started talking to other customers. Eventually the manager came out and proceeded to argue with us. He was initially unwilling to respond to our suggestion that we receive a reduction from our bill. Eventually, only one item was removed, but not without an unpleasant argument with the proprietor first. Sadly, we shall not return to...
