I really did not want to write a bad review for this place but never have I just wanted to pay and leave so quickly. I have eaten here once it was lovely, so lovely I booked a table for my mother and friend when they came down to Brighton. But my recent experience was just terrible. On arrival to the beautiful restaurant we were greeted well and given a table we wanted outside. We then ordered our starters, the bread basket and calamari. 3 types of bread came out, one was very hard and the only nice one was the seeded bread, my calamari was absolutely wonderful and the only reason I'm not giving a 1 star review. Not to mention the portion was superb, so much that I kept it on the table which I would soon find out was a life saver. Our mains arrived, my friends green curry with tofu (which we later found out was charged an extra £2 for tofu instead of chicken , no mention of this on the menu) and what was meant to be the baleinese caramel sauce with tofu and rice. When the food arrived it looked and smelt lovely, I started on my vegetables which were so hard I was embarrassed to be attacking my plate with so much force just to eat some broccoli. I mentioned to my friend that my tofu looked so meat like and how impressive it was. In the mean time my friend was eating what I would say was the most bland and tasteless meal I have tried in years! Anyway back to my meal, after a few minutes I go to try this odd tofu and realise it was the pork! After double checking with my friend we confirmed it was not the tofu but pork. I informed my waitress and she apologised and took it away. Thankfully I still had half of my starter to nibble on whilst I waited🤞. It just kept being one thing after another going wrong from there. My friend was painfully trying to eat her food which just had cubed out of the packet tofu thrown in there. Eventually the manager comes out and gives the same apology, asks if I would like to change the meal, I just ask again for what I ordered. Then the waitress comes over to offer something complimentary, perhaps a cocktail etc... I don't drink so I just asked for some orange juice. When the orange juice arrived we asked this waitress for some salt for my friend and she said ok. We never saw this salt and to be honest, had given up on these meals. My meal arrived, lots of fried lovely tofu, the same hard tender stems and some rice all drenched in not the same sauce I originally tasted but now what seemed like just soy sauce. Anyway I slowly attempt to cut my veg, and drain my rice to eat. I think at this point the only problem was how much sauce there was, it was very overpowering. Not to mention I think they over compromised with the amount of tofu and it just went to waste. I didn't finish my meal which is something I never do, as with my friend, but she took hers home to cook more and season. The bill arrives. They took off my meal understandably, but the 'complimentary' orange juice was on there for £5!!?? I knew it was a mistake but it was the icing on the cake to make me write this. Not to mention the extra £2 for tofu, making that meal £16. We didn't have the energy to mention this as we realised after we mentioned the mistake about the drink. After a long wait for the bill to be corrected we paid and left promptly. I don't know what happened this night, and I wouldn't say this review is representative to most peoples experiences, but this was mine last night and it was truly terrible.

The food was really, really good and the ambience was lovely. It was a bit noisy at the beginning but really quietened down by the end of the meal. The food was fantastic - especially the starters. We had the duck and calamari, and the best olives I've ever had. The cocktail menu was very small - but perfect. I recommend the Six Sours with Bourbon, which was a real treat. The blonde lady serving was fantastic - she made some very good recommendations for food and was a real pleasure to speak to. The other lady, unfortunately, let the experience down. She asked us if we wanted dessert after we had our starters, dropped a knife in our glass of water and was quite rude at the end when we asked for our bill. There was a very long wait between the starters and main, which I wouldnt mind on a busy night, but it was very quiet so I was surprised by that. Unfortunately, dessert took 25 minutes to arrive and wasnt even correct. I asked for them to take it back and bring the bill and the lady gave me a lot of attitude, saying "well it took 20 minutes to make it". I said she hadnt told us that when we ordered, so she replied "well I didnt know you wanted to leave!" I think she completely missed the point and it really put a downer on an otherwise fantastic night. I will go again, but I will probably avoid that lady.

SIX is my go to venue for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner alike. With its delicious and innovative fusions of modern and classic ingredients, it’s a mind blowing dining experience. My experience began with the brilliant supervisor Pelin greeting us, who is one of the friendliest individuals I’ve had the pleasure of coming across at a food establishment. She was also our waitress for our romantic dinner, and made sure everything was promptly with us, with care and attentiveness. We had the special SIX burger and salad that was ingenious as it combined popcorn with the element of salad? I thought it wouldn’t work but was intrigued nonetheless. However, something I’ve noticed from my visits to SIX is that they combine unexpected foods, resulting in unique blends of flavor that I applaud. The atmosphere, service, music, food, and everything else was a package deal, and simply everything one might ask for. There’s a reason why SIX is quickly becoming one of the bests in the region. Our lovely waitress/supervisor finished our evening by recommending the completely vegan melting moment dessert, which has now become our favorite. What a fantastic idea! We also got some lovely drinks that were a citrus delight! Thank you for an unforgettable evening Pelin and the rest of the SIX team!

  • Avoid if you have any allergies! *

The staff are negligent, unprofessional and they lack empathy and this begins with the general manager.

We went for breakfast and ordered pancakes for our kids. One of my daughters is severely allergic to dairy so we ordered a vegan pancake with vegan chocolate for her. The waiter brought the food out, and within 2 minutes my daughter said her mouth was itchy. We asked a member of staff to confirm whether my daughters pancake had normal or vegan chocolate. She went to the kitchen and came back saying they had used normal chocolate despite us asking for vegan chocolate and the order note explicitly saying my daughter had allergies. The woman who reported this was the general manager, she said sorry and moved onto serving other customers without a care in the world and total disregard for my daughters situation. She didn’t even bother to ask how severe my daughter allergy was and did not offer any help, she simply moved onto doing other things.

I left my family in the restaurant and drove to 3 different pharmacies nearby trying to find medicine for my daughter without any luck as pharmacies are closed until 11am on Sunday. I came back to the restaurant to pick up my family, by this time my daughter’s tongue swollen which makes her breathing difficult but general manager and the staff were acting as if nothing had happened and proceeded to take payment without any empathy or care and a total disregard for what they had done to my daughter. As I was making the payment, I tried to highlight the seriousness of the situation, the manager brushed it off simply by saying they will “review their process”.

Clearly never going here again and will avoid all the other places they operate in Brighton and Hove.

They say fish rot from head down, this place is clearly rotten from the management level downwards.

  • EDIT (Response to venue’s comments) *

Causing an allergic reaction is a life threatening experience, and you calling it a “less than a great experience” is an awful attempt at undermining the significance of what happened.

Here in public, you mention that an investigation has been carried but you are yet to respond to my last email dated 1st June 2022, and I am still waiting for you to send me a copy of the relevant order ticket that went to...

We ate here for brunch on Saturday morning with high hopes after seeing the good reviews online. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and we were treated to complementary prosecco as it was my birthday. Unfortunately that is where our praise ends as the meal went downhill from then on. Service was awful the whole way through, we waited ages to be tended to, and to pay, and had to constantly call someone over. They have over-complicated the food by dressing it up and making it ‘quirky’ which has ultimately compromised the taste. The cooked breakfast was awful; the sausages were dense, cold and horrible, the ‘sautéed’ potatoes were cold and hard in the middle and seemed like they had been half-boiled not sautéed, we asked for no beans but found a teaspoonful at the bottom of the bowl, as though beans had still been added and they had scooped back out, missing some at the bottom. The food was all stuffed into a small bowl which made it very difficult to eat. We ordered a smoothie each at the same time we ordered everything else which didn’t arrive, so when our food was given to us we asked the waitress and she said she’d hurry our smoothies along. 15 mins later still no sign of the smoothies, after finally finding another waitress she said she would reorder them for us. 20 mins later our smoothies finally arrived, at which point we were already done with our meal so we asked if we could take them away with us. A very rude waiter told us they didn’t have takeaway cups and then just walked away. We asked another waitress and she gave us takeaway cups which the waiter had told us didn’t exist. We shouldn’t have worried getting takeaway cups because when we then tried the smoothies the flavour was horrible and we couldn’t drink them. Thankfully they refunded them for us, but we wish they could have arrived on time so we could have been able to order...
