Table booked for 3 people on Saturday evening at 6pm. The restaurant wasnât busy and we were given the choice of 2 tables. On being seated we were told that they didnât have the sea bass or the lamb duo as they had runout of both. When I asked why that was (it was only 6pm on a Saturday evening after all) I was told because they are 2 of the most popular meals!! No apologies by the server in fact nothing not even a smile the whole time we were there. He took the drinks order and left us to browse the menu. The drinks arrived after a short wait and then a different server came to take our order we ordered garlic bread steak fish & chips and pie. It took ages for the starter to arrive but it was very nice once it came. Starter finished we waited for plate to be cleared. 15min later the plate was cleared after another 5 minutes the server came over to ask if the starters were finished. We waited a further 20 minutes for the mains to arrive. Everything was piping hot and well presented the food was good and the portions were more than adequate probably could do with more of the lovely pepper sauce with the steak and the gravy with the pie wasnât very flavoursome so I was pleased it was served separately. No one checked in with us to see if everything was okay during the meal. The servers seemed to disappear into thin air. I eventually managed to attract the serverâs attention for some more drinks which were brought over by the person serving behind the bar. He said he would get someone to clear the table but no one came. We werenât offered dessert menus and we got fed up of waiting for someone to come over so I went to the bar to pay the bill. We were a bit underwhelmed by the service and the fact that 2 of the most popular meals (which is what we all wanted) were not available at 6pm on a Saturday ( need to sort the ordering of stock out) The restaurant wasnât busy but the service was poor and unwelcoming (need to sort the servers out) On the plus side high five to the chef because even though we didnât get our first choice from the menu the food was great also a mention to the bar person who brought our drinks over and took my payment he was friendly and pleasant. The servers could learn a...
Read moreMy previous, and last visit, was over 18 months ago, the service was terrible, the food was terrible (ping food, microwave), value for money was terrible. The place itself was drab, the wooden tables were sticky, the cutlery was not exactly clean. I had been told that since then the place was under new management, I therefore decided to give it another shot. My partner and I visited armed with the 40% on-line discount voucher, she had the Hunters Chicken Schnitzel, well, it looked and tasted as though it went straight into the deep fryer from the freezer. The breadcrumb batter was like rock, the chicken had a "wet" texture, and it was barely warm. I had the Ultimate Beef Burger, what a mistake, it arrived after 30 minutes, barely warm, so soggy the seeded bun disintegrated. It was missing the pulled pork and hot honey, the "crispy onions" comprised of 2 minute bits of onion offcuts. I was about to complain when the manager ran up with a small pot of "pulled pork" which, when emptied, half of it was a huge streak of fat. The "skin on triple cooked fries" were awful and could be counted on one hand. Finally, the tables were as sticky as they were 18 months prior. The bill came to around £45. The waitress asked if all was OK, not being her fault, I just told her she didn't want to know. When she brought the bill she told us that the manager had taken off the cost of the burger when in fact all he had done was reduce the two main meals by the 40%. No one was interested in hearing our complaints, the manager was nowhere in sight, therefore I told the senior waitress I would post this review and with a shrug of her shoulders, we left. Not a place I would...
Read moreMe and my elderly Mum were greeted at the door by a visibly unwell member of staff. They were snotty, sniffing and congested. After sitting down for 20 seconds and having the server stand directly above us, in close proximity, I decided that we would leave because we were having germs breathed all over us. Not to mention having cutlery and menus etc handled by someone who was visibly unwell. I spoke to a manager on my way out the door and was told that she could be my server instead. Unfortunately, by this point, the germs were already distributed wide and far across the restaurant and we had already been in close proximity. In this day and age this is absolutely unacceptable! We are being warned to avoid mixing with people if we are unwell by the government and NHS. This is completely irresponsible for the management to allow this member of staff to work whilst they were unwell. Unfortunately, the poor young lady who was unwell would likely have had little choice but to come to work unwell, as sick pay is disgraceful and, I'm guessing company sick pay is non existent! If you insist on not paying sick pay, then at least have the sense to offer staff alternative working arrangements, such as non front of house work. I imagine this experience was embarrassing and for the young lady and was not her fault. I hope she feels better soon. As it stands, I won't be returning to the pub as this wasn't a nice experience and has made me question the marketing values of Marston's... 'Pubs to be proud of To bring people together to create happy, memorable, meaningful...
