Barkers Cafe Bar — Restaurant in England

Pleasant lunch tainted by rude, male staff member - we thought we were really spoiled to have such a wide selection of Vegan options, the girl who served our food was lovely, the attitude of the male really was cringeworthy.

I'd like to think we're all allowed a bad day, but going by the other reviews it seems it's a permanent feature. We watched him give others the same treatment where we sat. Not really acceptable to subject paying customers to such attitude, we should have probably just walked out and cancelled our order.

There was an issue with how long it took to get drinks, masochistically we ordered a 2nd round of hot(ish) drinks (because they weren't that warm the first time), we again got an "is that all?!" from the ray of sunshine behind the counter who then turned his back to us.

Food was OK, tasty enough hard to criticise without the review feeling vindictive to the grumpy guy, the sides (coleslaw, sliced potatoes) didn't really add anything or have much flavour, but the mains were nice enough.

The first time I visited this place the staff could not have been nicer and so I have returned several times with different members of my family and did so again today . I am limited food choice-wise and they didn’t have my first choice of soup which is fine but they then said they didn’t have enough of my 2nd choice to make a full portion , I didn’t want much at all so asked how much there was and the reply was ‘not enough that I will serve’ I was obviously a bit taken aback and said I didn’t think there was anything else on the menu I could have, to which both he , I assume the owner / manager and the girl at the till said nothing , just waited for me . No suggestions/alternatives. Maybe they’d had a long busy day and they were closing but very ,very disappointing because they obviously couldn’t be bothered with me . Won’t be going back or recommending them to anyone else or any of my guests. On the bright side , we found number 12 cafe /bar who were delightful and saved the day with great service and a fab menu and I will definitely be back there instead and recommending...

A BAD EXPERIENCE - GO SOMEWHERE MORE WELCOMING! I went in, on my own for a working lunch. I politely ordered a coffee to drink while i looked at the menu. I opened up my laptop at the table. My coffee was brought over.

The owner then came over and politely informed me that the cafe had a no laptop policy. Surprised, I asked if it was OK to check a few emails while i had my coffee. The owner said that this was fine.

Clearly I would no longer be buying lunch here, as was my intention, but never-mind. I continued to drink my coffee and decided i'd go elsewhere for lunch.

After what was no longer than 5 mins the owner came back over and said he'd told me about the laptop policy. He clearly though I was trying it on despite saying he was OK with me using it while I had my coffee.

I stated to him that I felt hassled and was surprised at his attitude and the no laptop policy.

Make of it what you will. I will not be going there again despite living just down the road. Neither will anyone...
