I have lived in Richmond for over 20 years and have watched the portion size shrink, while the price inexorably rises at this establishment. Today however, was the last time I will be visiting Barkers. I ordered a large haddock in batter plus a portion of peas total cost £6.20. When I got home and opened the fish and chip paper I was appalled at both the portion size and the quality of the product I received . I returned the fish and peas to Barkers and demanded my money back, then travel all the way to Catterick Village Fisheries where I was served a far superior and larger portion Of haddock and peas, total price £4.20 It may be a little further to travel, but I will happily make the...

Avoid ! In the heart of Richmond town centre, we decided to try the restaurant. We ordered two small fish and chips, which arrived lukewarm, clearly having been cooked sometime before our arrival -(yes we should have complained - but we were hungry and ate them) What was really off putting was the man that served us, dirty clothing, but with open weeping cuts on his hands. If this is a skin condition I suggest he wears cotton gloves to cover whilst serving meals. In addition to this the place was quite grubby. The steps leading to the restaurant need a good mopping, the toilet was ok but the cleaning schedule was blank - probably a true reflection of when...

THE SMALLEST of small cods I have been given for my money. EVER. ANYWHERE. We have been buying fish and chips at Barkers of Richmond since we moved here almost 12 years ago. It has its ups and downs but mostly of good quality and fresh. Today's was freshly fried but you could have mistaken it for a shrunken sardine. Just ridiculous. Tried to call to enquire what they suggest I do but nobody was picking up the phone. Some of my husband's chips were bigger than my fish. Would have gone back to complain but time was the reason why we went for quick solution. Not a happy bunny! Not a...

Well, the Google listing for my intended destination being completely wrong I asked a passing local and I was directed across the street to Barkers. Top advice. I ate upstairs in the restaurant - after a long day in the hills I needed a sit down. Proper Northern fish & chips experience - standard size fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter and a pot of tea. Served accompanied with authentic Yorkshire ironic dry wit (something another reviewer clearly misinterpreted but I welcomed). Total traditional experience at a good price. You'll not get this sort of thing in "your London".

I ordered fish and chips and the fish was excellent.i couldn't fault it at all.nice crispy batter and flakey fish and it was a good size but the chips were a massive letdown.plenty of them and they looked good but they must have been the greaseist chips I've ever had.honestly I had to bin them and I don't like throwing away foid.for me inedible..shame as the fish was so good and the price was ok.well it was untill I tasted the chips.doubt I'd return here

Have had fish and chips from Barker's a couple of times passing through Richmond. Had small fish and chips which comes with a sauce if your choice. Fish was cooked fresh to order, no issues with the wait for it to be cooked. The fish was of quite good quality and the chips were cooked just how they should be! For small fish and chips with sauce and a drink it's approx £8.50, a bit on the high side for small portion. Would definitely return.
