Gobsmacked is the best word to describe my experience this evening , a busy bar of one lady ( who was being served) a couple and my wife and I , as we waited patiently an elderly gentleman walks up to the bar , the boy serving finishes with his customer and proceeds to immediately serve the old man , leaving the couple next to us and ourselves flabbergasted . The duty manager , who had now finally returned to the bar asked who was next , foolishly I spoke up indicating it was the couple then ourselves , the young girl who clearly has no customer skills took hum-bridge to my frustration and firstly suggested I went elsewhere , immediately followed by we werenât going to be served tonight( I would like to point out that no swearing occurred during this interaction or any acts of intimidation ) , I responded and finally turned away with the reply to her lack of professionalism with âwhateverâ . After sheâd finished serving the couple I asked to speak in a more appropriate area to which she just came round to the public side of the bar , I attempted to explain the frustration that this happens a lot and perhaps some training should be in order for bar staff . After again the young girl attempted to continue to escalate the situation by saying the man was on his own , eh , whatâs that got to do with owt ??? I pointed out I would be asking for a copy of her body cam , to which she clearly has no clue on GDPR or public access requests( the company even give you the email address to enquire for it ) , telling me it was only for the police . At this point a chose to leave , I did ask for her name so I could pursue this matter further with a higher management but sadly she could only aggressively say it was duty manger , this I believe came from the fact she had referred to me as love or some such derogatory name earlier in the conversation to which I had said itâs either sir or Chris. What a shame Weatherspoons employ youngsters to do the jobs of adults , clearly the duty managers have very little customer relation skills training or how to de escalate a situation caused by their own employees . Letâs hope higher management give a bit more consideration to the customer than the staff they employ when...
Read moreWhat a horrible place. The only good thing from my visit was the drinks came really quick from when i ordered using the app on my phone. Unfortunatly the food was not. It was more than disappointing. I ordered 1 scampi and chips and 1 salad which took over an hour to come and not only that it was the worst word iv ever had. The salad was limp and soaked in dressing and the scampi was cremated and the rest of the food was stone cold. My partner and i left most of the food. I started to notice people coming in and being served food before us despite them ordering after us.. I approached a waiter regarding our delay in food and why not 1 but 4 other tables had been served despite coming in after us, his reply was " All orders are coming out all over place not in order, but it shunt be long". Wow what happened to cooking food in order and his response should have been apologetic and offered to check for us... All the doors in the pub were wide open and so we froze to death... Behind out table there were a trolley where staff were scrapeing food into a black bag. Yuk. That should be done in the kitchen not infront of customers as they eat. Finally the cleanliness was no where near good enough and bearing in mind we are in midst of a pandemic and buisnesses are supposed to be much cleaner. The tables were not being cleaned off quickly after people leaving and they were only being quickly wiped down with the same damp cloth and no anitbacterial spray. The whole pub was just dirty. We will not be...
Read moreIt's a Witherspoon so it is what it is.
Situated away from Richmond's Main Square, opposite the park in (as often they are) an old cinema. The layout and decor is spacious and Wetherspoons tasteful. Indoor seating is over 2 levels, likewise the outside seating is also over 2 levels with a large, at table, smoking area. All the tables are well spaced inside and out. The staff were (generally) friendly, helpful and efficient.
For the mobility impaired and wheelchair user initial access to the upper seating area is very good unaided. Access to the lower area is via a folding wheelchair stair lift, which is in full view of all indoor patrons. I assume, for H&S reasons, the lift must be operated by a member of staff.
The bar and access to the outer area is via the lower level. The main toilets are up a flight of steep stairs. Did not see a disabled toilet, but that does not mean they do not have one.
Drinks and food can be ordered in person, at the bar, or via the Wetherspoons App, which is to be honest really good. It is especially useful for those with mobility issues. When using the app food and drinks arrived quickly even when ordering a single pint.
However, those in the party who had food said that it was bordering on lukewarm (maybe a bit more time in the microwave next time). Other than that the food was good and like the drink, keenly priced.
In summary, this is another average Wetherspoons, providing good service, reasonable food, a wide variety of drinks all at a...
