I am sorry to have to write this, but I hope in doing so the feedback can be taken onboard and improvements made for this lovely venue. I have eaten a roast here before and the vege option was ok/average. We booked a table yesterday for 5pm with our friends. On a positive they enjoyed their 'Beef roasts'. On delivering our meals the opening line was "there was not much choice left in the kitchen as it's near to finishing with regards to the veg". When I looked at my plate I could see that this statement was correct. My vege option consisted of a huge amount of stuffing which was half cooked and not edible. I had 2 parsnips (1 not cooked, 1 so small and overcooked?), 3 overcooked wilted Broccoli, 1 small (tiny) roast potato with a few square cut potatoes, cold cauliflower cheese, luke warm very dry nut roast and vege gravy which when placed onto the plate looked like an oil slick and a quarter of a plate worth of peas. I left the entire amount of food and when I left went to Sainsburys to buy my dinner to cook at home. When asked if everything was ok when my plate was collected, I politely and quietly gave the feedback. I received an apology and that was it. What is frustrating is that we had a booked table, we would of been happy if someone could of run up to Sainsburys to buy a £1 bag of mixed veg. If you are going to have issues towards the end of the day maybe finish serving a lot earlier?, take pre orders when tables are booked, run up to Sainsburys and spend £1 on a bag of mixed veg?. When we went to pay there was no itemised bill, we were just given a figure. We have no idea if we were charged for the vege meal. The staff were not rude, just not really interested in any form of service recovery. The people sat next to us even commented on the food and thought in their eyes it was a 'child's portion'. They decided to eat elsewhere after...
Read moreAs others have pointed out this place seems like a little hidden gem for locals. It's barely off the beaten track, but needs reviews like this to bring visitor's attention to it. Used to be the go to place after work on a Friday.
Has decent ales, great staff, atmosphere and a friendly dog. Music is great, if like me you're of a certain age (music was better in my day, get over it).
Since the pandemic it's no longer the "after work" place. It's now my only go to place if I have to be in town (well, to be honest, I also should throw a shout out for the Hop Poles, on Middle Street. For all the same reasons).
If you've never visited the Bottom's Rest - you ought to.
Well,...
Read moreWhat a meal! I visited Bottoms Rest last night (Wednesday is a burger night) to meet some friends and sample the Indian Street food menu. We tried each of the vegan burgers; Aloo Tiki burger, Hariyali Jackfruit burger, the Black Daal Burger three sides of Mogo Chips, Cauliflower Chilli and Sev Dahi Puri. Each had their distinct flavour. The Hariyali burger and Sev Dahi Puri being distinct favourites of our group. I really enjoyed the meal and service. The food came promptly from friendly staff. We got to meet Jaldee Jaldee owner Fagoon and express how much we enjoyed the food. I'll definitely be back to try one...
