Browns of Windsor Restaurant Review
Ambiance and Atmosphere: The restaurant was bustling and full of people, reflecting Windsor's lively tourist atmosphere. Its Thames-side location is a major plus. Despite the crowd, I eventually secured a table.
Food Quality and Presentation: I ordered calamari in a tangy sauce and Shepherd's pie. The waiter's somewhat unconventional recommendation proved surprisingly successful. The calamari was delicious, and the Shepherd's pie, featuring chunks of lamb, gravy, carrots, and mashed potato, was unexpectedly tasty and satisfying. Presentation wasn't explicitly noted but the food itself sounded well-prepared.
Service: While initially slow to get seated (I felt somewhat overlooked), the waiter was friendly and helpful once I was at my table, offering a unique food pairing that worked well. Overall, service was acceptable; however, some improvement in initial attentiveness could enhance the experience.
Value for Money: Considering the high cost of dining in this part of London, Browns Windsor offered surprisingly reasonable prices. My meal, which included only water, was fairly priced given the quality of the food.
Overall Impression: Despite a slight delay in receiving service initially, I highly recommend Browns of Windsor. The delicious food, especially the calamari and Shepherd's pie, and its prime location near the Thames create a memorable dining experience. The meal effectively quenched my hunger. The overall experience warrants a five-star rating.
Final Verdict: Five Stars. Excellent food in a great location at a reasonable price for the area, making it a worthwhile...
Read moreLet’s start with the positives, Browns Windsor certainly knows how to pick a postcode. Right on the banks of the Thames with a spacious outdoor seating area, it’s got the kind of setting that almost demands a crisp drink in hand and a relaxed afternoon of people-watching.
But unfortunately, while the view’s top drawer, the experience itself didn’t quite match up to the potential.
The cider selection was… well, a bit of a missed flight connection. All imported, with not a single British cider in sight. Now, I’ve got nothing against our Swedish friends (they know their way around a fruity bottle), but this is Windsor! A stone’s throw from royal soil and surrounded by some of the finest independent cider makers in the UK and yet not a British drop to be seen. It’s not just a missed trick; it’s a bit of a disservice to local producers, not to mention the planet. Supporting British just makes sense, both morally and environmentally.
Service-wise, it’s bar-only, so don’t expect brasserie-level attention. It’s more “pub pitstop” than polished hospitality. That’s fine if you’re not fussed, but Browns presents itself as a brasserie, and I was expecting a bit more of a First Class experience, not self-service in Business.
All in all, Browns Windsor is a bit like a beautifully liveried aircraft with no Champagne onboard. Lovely to look at, but not quite delivering on what’s promised. A strong 3 stars from me, good bones, but lacking in the finer details that would make it soar.
Come on, Browns. You’ve got the location. Now it’s time to up the service and get a few local ciders on tap. Let’s support British, one...
Read moreEduardo ( I guess that was his name, Italian man) was our server for the night, we didn’t feel like we were welcomed at first, we waited some time and then he eventually came in to take our drinks order, we asked him for a recommendation for a nice sweet red wine, which he didn’t offer. We then settled for Prosecco instead. We then ordered our mains, however my friends and I were out to celebrate my birthday that night which was the purpose of the dinner. I had wanted a lobster dish which apparently was out of stock but we weren’t informed until another waiter came (whom was really nice) sat next to me and offered an alternative and he told me that it would be off the bill. Next we wanted to order a second round of drinks, it took us sometime to get his attention, when we finally did he seemed like he was in a rush and didn’t take our drinks order fully. Once he brought in our next round of drinks we had one cocktail missing so we had to remind him about it. Next we wanted to get some dessert and to clarify, while making the table reservation we mentioned that it is a birthday dinner and that we would have someone would bring it out with candles and sing all together. The candle was brought out with the dessert but when we asked if anyone is going to sing he said you guys can sing I won’t be singing. That was our experience dining with Browns. At no point we were asked if our meals were okay and it was disappointing especially towards the end. I’d like to thank the guy that offered the replacement for the lobster (tall guy with...
