Honest Burgers Windsor — Restaurant in England

Completely disappointed!

I’m a food addict and use to travel around the world often and discover and try some new food.

As I live around, I’ve seen this restaurant well reviewed on Uber eat for months and was wondering if the burger is really good and also if the “hand made chips” were as good as announced.

We all know Shake Shack as one of THE burger chain reference worldwide, personally my favorite burger. But as there is no Shake Shack in my area, I was looking for an alternative restaurant around. So I’ve investigate deeper into the huge list of restaurants and decided to try Honest Burger. To be honest, I was a bit afraid by seeing hand made “vegan” Rosemary Salted Chips but my wife told me that vegan could be good to try. Even McDonald’s fries are much much better than yours.

We have tried the Smashed Burger and the Beef + American Cheese Burger and the Chicken Tenders.

Let’s start by the positive points:

Despite the distance between Windsor and Slough, the order has arrived well packed and still with good temperature.

The Chicken Tenders are good but with a very strong taste, so 4pcs are enough no need to take more.

Then come the dark side…

Regarding the hand made “vegan” Rosemary Salted Chips they are not greasy which is a good thing, but unfortunately are really really bad in taste. Sadly, we had to throw them in the trashcan and we really hate wasting food but this time no choice… We sincerely advise you to look at what competitors do or do a short stay in France to get some inspiration to see how some good hand made chips must be, try some chips concept like Las Fritas in Barcelona and many others on some places like Belgium, because you cannot sell this kind of chips and in this range of price. I do understand that some people can like your chips but in my opinion after trying a lot, I can say that this chips are not tasty at all!

About the burger, I ordered 2 different burger in the order to try two different beef.

Beef + American Cheese Burger: The burger was good, not wow but good at least. I truly advise not to take onion relish inside, because it was too much, I had to remove them and could not feel the real taste of this burger as the bun was plenty of onion sauce. The beef is classic, not good nor bad. The bun is a bit dry, I was hoping a brioche bread like in the nice pictures we see in the menu.

Smashed Burger: The burger was good but again I had to remove the pickles because they were a way to sweet. Same thought regarding the bread. The beef was neither good nor bad, but it is the very same beef we can find in all the restaurant I have in the High street unfortunately. So again there is no point to pay more in your restaurant to avoid eating some junky food in 70% of the restaurants around if finally we find the very same taste and result at the end by eating your food.

To resume, we are disappointed to have throw £30 and wasted food but unfortunately we cannot know without trying. So no regret, we know now that your restaurant is not for us anymore but of course will be tasty for some people. Fortunately we are all different.

Setting+decor:

We had such a wonderful lunchtime experience here today. It is a lovely restaurant,it is quite an old and small building but I love the views from the pass area of the Wetherspoon’s garden. I love the posters here and that adds to the dining experience. This restaurant gets very busy so I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. It is a great place to eat after visiting Windsor Castle or doing the Duck tour. The atmosphere is nice in here too.

Food:

.It is fantastic that 100% of the food menu can be substituted for a gluten free option. The only food that contains gluten is the regular burger bun but it can be substituted for a gluten free bun. Some food contains gluten free oats though,but that is very few options on the menu.

.The food being fresh makes all the better difference to the taste and quality of the food. You can taste the freshness in the food.

Order:

.Gluten free Honest Burger with no lettuce-Delicious,everything was so delicious,complemented eachother so nicely and the beef in particular was well cooked

.Rosemary salted chips-A personal firm favourite Honest Burgers favourite. The chips are delicious and the Rosemary salt and seasoning sets these chips apart from other chips that I have eaten at other restaurants in the past. The chips are also triple cooked too which is nice!

.Chicken wings-I just love them,again they are another personal firm favourite from Honest Burgers,the spice has a little kick to it but it tastes so lovely and the guacamole adds flavour to the wings. All the flavours nicely compliment eachother and the chicken was well cooked.

.Onion rings-Perfect,crispy,crunchy and the onion itself was very nice.

.Slaw-Fine but fresh.

.The portions for everything is so generous and it feels like you are getting your moneys worth. Portions are not stingy here at all.

.The weekday lunch menu is incredible value!

Service:

.Friendly staff+food came out quickly. .The first question we were asked when we were placing the order was whether there were any allergies. .The allergy order was taken first.

Toilet cleanliness:

A truly wonderful restaurant with amazing staff. We did not have a booking but We walked in as a party of 3 adults and 7 children ranging from 12 to 1 years of age. We were seated together Thank you to Awais Paulina and Amelia for arranging all the tables. The staff were great with recommending dishes and drinks. The homemade Lemonade was delicious. They were great with food allergies too. My daughter suffers with a dairy allergy and I was surprised that most everything on the menu was dairy free and gluten free. Obviously not the cheese 😉 a wonderful selection of burgers cooked how you want it. Now for the stressful bit. This has nothing to do with the food. Our little one (1yrs old) was not feeling very well and unfortunately vomited all over the place. Darren was brilliant. I was not made to feel bad or uncomfortable. He cleaned up the mess and offered assistance. I asked for my food which had just been served to be kept warm in the kitchen which was not a problem. Once I had the little one all cleaned up and changed they brought out my food. I was so impressed that they had given me fresh chips and my burger was still piping hot. I was so thankful for that. Now back to the food the rosemary chips were absolutely delicious and the burgers amazing. I will definitely be going back to this restaurant.
