It's the second room I do at this place. The first one (caved in) was really good and everything went well, but the second one (temple) left me really frustrated due to our game master.
Towards the beginning, I tried to adress him just to ask if something I wanted to try was ok and not gonna break anything. He responded by sending us a clue. From here on out, we weren't afforded the fun of trial and error, as we'd be sent the clues anytime we'd spend more than two minutes working on a riddle.
At the end, with seven minutes left on our time, we were trying hard to find the solution to the last riddle, (while following instructions from the last given clue, so we hadn't even found what to do ourselves, just trying to complete the equation laid out in front of us). Without being anywhere near actually completing the right combination of actions, the mask was revealed and it was the end.
I was really bummed and all in all left super frustrated. The room was well made, the riddles well thought out, but being robbed of solving the puzzles myself ruined it for me. Most of the joy of an escape game lays in solving the puzzles and getting that satisfaction, and there, even spoon fed clues we weren't even given enough time to follow it through.
We started our game at 8.30pm, so maybe our game master just wanted to get home which I can't blame them for. If that was the reason, if I'd known the experience would be so badly impacted by the hour, I would've booked for a different time. For 29 pounds per person, plus fees, it feels a bit unfair to get such a drastically different experience. And if it wasn't due to the late time, I hope the person in charge of our room will get better at gauging...
Read moreMy intent is to leave this review without ruining the integrity of the actual games itself by giving any specific details away
I have been to a handful of escape rooms and found the staff here kind and helpful. We played an 8 person room and it was interesting and fun.
My issue with the game was there was a final part that we could not complete due to a design flaw. There was a physical hole in an item which meant we could simply not progress beyond that final stage, despite knowing exactly what to do and how to do it
An escape room is meant to test your mental problem solving abilities. However once you have solved that mental problem it doesn't make sense for a physical design flaw to prevent you completing the task. A simple analogy here is guessing which shape goes into a hole, but the corner of that shape being bent so it does not fit even though you have guessed the right answer
My understanding from today was that many others have also complained about this specific design issue previously, so I am not the first. This frustration is compounded when you consider the high cost of playing for 1 hour (over ÂŁ150).
So in summary, the location is nice and staff are lovely but the game itself has physical design flaws which left an anti climax experience that was not value for money. Fixing issues like this will create a much better experience - however unfortunately for us we wont get to...
Read moreIt's okayish , but certainly could be better. Let me explain myself. I must to say that I find too many similarities with another review here, I went at 20:30 aprox (which I think must be their last session) and our game master was somekind utterly deflated. I can understand, he want to went home ASAP, plus outside was raining cats and dogs. The hidden temple was or challange, which is not bad ,but, as someone mentioned here, after 2 minutes you have a clue... I mean, let us resolve the damn thing! The scenario was pretty good I must say. All was okay (except for the continuos clues but the worst came at the very end room (where the golden mask is). Some puzzles (not all of them) were already resolved (i.e. some box already open) and the mask....WAS JUST THERE!!!! Then,we heard some footsteps approaching, we thought that it would be another actor doing an indigenous impersonation with a mask (as minutes before) but it was our game master doing a "keep going keep going I am not here" act walking straight to the golden mask...then pushing down the base where the golden mask was to hide it again... I mean... and remember...some puzzles where resolved beforehand (obviously, the staff forgot to set the things up properly). Before the last room,...
