I've been visiting Indian restaurants regularly for 20+ years. Never have I felt the need to complain so much as about the Chutney Ivy. This place has to be the worst I've experienced in terms of Indian food in all that time. We were sat close to the serving area which gave the ambience of being sat in a canteen. Staff stood watching over us during the meal. We elected the feast for two. Some broken bits of poppadom were brought, quickly followed by a mixed starter. The bhajis were cremated, the rest of the starter was acceptable, though a little over cooked. We then had a 50 minute wait for the mains to come out. Or rather, to be passed over the counter to the staff, who then just banged it on the table. The mains were a selection of the most bland an un-curry like offerings I've ever eaten in a restaurant. The Tikka Masala was watery, flavourless and bland. And it was the tastiest of the lot! There was an Indian vegetable dish which tasted like a poor casserole. The other dishes contained beef, minced in one and pieces in the other. The beef was cooked OK, but both dishes were utterly flavourless. The minced dish was like a watery soup with minced beef floating in it! Frankly, I could not believe the lack of quality, especially as the price is pretty high for what you get. The offer of the dishes being replenished is pointless - more of it is the last thing you want. We were then charged a 10% service charge! For a party of two, this is bloody cheeky. The staff were acceptably OK, but the overall experience of this place was such that I wouldn't be paid to eat there in future. Could I suggest the owners and chef head up to West Yorkshire and the Huddersfield/Bradford/Leeds area and sample a few Indian Restaurants in this area. They would surely learn a hell of a lot about what constitutes a good curry and...
Read moreWe booked a table of 4 to eat in the restaurant this weekend and had a very unpleasant experience, upon arrival we were seated after some confusion over our booking and handed our menus. Two of which had curry stains on which the waiting staff were made aware of, one walked off and we had to wait for the manager came over, he apologised and replaced them with fresh ones.
We ordered the poppadoms with the drinks, little did we know that the poppadoms cost £9. Considering these are given on the house at most curry houses and were not warned of the extra cost at the time we felt like we had been massively ripped off. We ordered 3 starters to share between four and were again left disappointed with the portion sizes, for the price of what they charge for them we were left unsatisfied to say the least. A running theme for the mains as well, although the roti’s and rice were nice.
In summary, I would avoid this place and look for somewhere else if you’re in the mood for an Indian. Overpriced food for the portion sizes, poor service and uncomfortable...
Read moreI had really high hopes for this restaurant but unfortunately i will not recommend and won't go back. Social distancing measures in place and staff was very friendly and helpful though. The food was really disappointing, no flavor whatsoever. The sheek kebabs were dry and had no taste. The duck samoosas were ok but nothing special. The King prawns looked really nice but taste wise, couldn't really tell what tasted like. The mains were as bad. The chicken was alright, the lamb chops were spicy and should be more tender and juicy. I can go on and on about the rest of the meal but bottom line is the indian cuisine is rich in flavor and the taste should be intense, rich and remarkable. Presentation was good, restaurant environment was good, staff worked really hard to make a fine dining experience, however the food which is the main thing was not acceptable. The Chef came round which was awesome but yeh, for that much money, you much rather go elsewhere. Service is 4 star but food 2, hence I'm giving 3 star to kind...
