The Grand Hotel Leicester looking 👌after its renovations. One of the city’s most iconic buildings had a full front-facing glow-up. The historic Grand Hotel on Granby Street has been beautifully restored, bringing back its original Victorian charm. Timber shopfronts, elegant windows, and that famous turret looking fresh again. Outside, the street’s been revamped too: wider pavements, new seating, and proper Parisienne vibes for anyone strolling between the train station and the city centre. This £900k+ heritage project is a big win for Leicester and proof that our past still has a place in the city’s future. More of this renovation would be welcomed across the city! #yourleicester #leicester #hotel

This is possibly one of the worst hotels we have stayed in, the room was tiny and very dated, the bathroom was broken at places (see the photo), I tried calling reception to make some enquiries about the local area and the phone rang for well over five minutes without anyone picking up. There was a function room at the hotel and the booming reverberations from the party shook all the way through the whole building, it was like staying in student accommodations in freshers week. I wouldn't recommend staying here if there is a function on in the evening, as the booming music didn't stop till 12 midnight. We were on the 4th floor and heard it all loud and clear. I would strongly urge anyone thinking about staying here to reconsider, if fact avoid this place altogether. The shower is extremely weak, almost like a trickle. The shower also leaked and the water ran all over the bathroom floor. Rather diabolical. For some bizarre reason the floorboards in the bedroom creaked very loudly, which seems absolutely bizarre considering the floors in hotels like these are normally concrete under the carpet. The walls in the room are paper thin and as a result we could hear anyone talking in the corridor or even doors closing throughout the evening, waking us up each time it happened. One thing I can be sure of, and that is you will not get a sound night sleep, even if you do manage to fall sleep in the rather dilapidated rooms. The one and only redeeming factor for this hotel is the breakfast, and the helpful staff during the breakfast meal. Upon checkout however the staff member was slow and rude, didn't ask how the stay was, treated us like we weren't there, awful service.

Stayed here originally for business when it was a Ramada product. Accor have spruced it up, redesigned and refreshed to positive effect. Parking at rear (£8 for 24hrs correct at July '18) with an entrance into the reception area from the back. Check-in failed to notice Platinum status but remedied when queried with an upgraded junior suite with usual privilege bits (robes, slippers, espresso, water etc.). We had a front facing room which, given no aircon, meant we had to keep the original steel and secondary double glazed windows very open. Noise from the street was a little disruptive (even from tbe 3rd floor), especially bottles being recycled at 5am from several neighbouring bars. May want to think about requesting a side or rear room for this reason during hot weather. A small fan supplied in the room was a nice thought but made little impact. Comfortable and well furnished room. Bathroom had bath with shower over, full range of Mercure complimentary toiletries. We noted a 4 (out of 5) on scores on the doors for the catering premises so it was good to also note the kitchen was undergoing refurb during out stay - hopefully to resolve this. Bar and bar staff were friendly and welcoming and it was a pleasant area to relax in.

Good location but found wool eating beetle in the bed and staff unfazed when reported it. Apparently this type of beetle usual has larva nearby which was really worrying.

I write this review after being asked by manager (after escalated complaint) not to leave it and they would give us a free night stay to replace the night we had paid for. But I wont be blackmailed.

As a wheelchair user you have to enter via side entrance which is where people go to urinate after night out and homeless people use it for the same, so it stinks.

As some previous reviews stated decor is somewhat dated but this didn’t bother us.

Carpets were rippling in corridors - so be careful for tripping. Room was dated but spacious and again carpet rippled in places, as it was a disabled room this is a serious trip risk.

We were mortified and disgusted to find the beetle in the bed and as this was our first trip away together for years (we have disabled children), we were quite upset. More so that staff didn’t care about it.

We paid £99 for the room for the night via a virgin voucher bit had to settle for £71 refund in the end. Gutted as such precious time was ruined and a lengthy trip to get to the hotel.

Nowhere near 4 star service. Maybe environmental health to need to check where the larva for these beetles are, as obviously feeding on the mattresses - we got no sleep...
