Compass Bar — Restaurant in England

Looked so great from the outside Ambience and food good but one of our small party had to wait well over half an hour for a cheese panini and it arrived after everyone else had eaten. We were told they can only cook (toast) two at a time. The cold food was prepared ahead of the hot food. We were the only ones in there at this stage. The bill was a shambles - we had to work out our own bills. The Manager lied that if we had asked at the beginning we could have had individual bills (in front of 3 witnesses). We advised him we had but when it was time to pay they just gave us a big bill and told us to calculate it and sort it out ourselves. I gave them the requested feedback. I have since received a contradictory email from the Manager stating he has no intention of changing the billing system and making it clear he does not want us to return despite spending a lot of money there. Visited The Compass yesterday afternoon {Friday 9th Aug} with a friend. Approached the bar, there was a young man with his back to us making up a drink & a young lady on her phone behind the bar. We waited patiently for a few minutes but neither of them said anything to us. We continued to wait for service {a ‘will be with you in a bit’} would have been polite. They just ignored us. The chap just carried on doing something with bottles & the girl carried on doing something on her phone. They did see us waiting to be served but couldn’t be bothered. We are locals & have been there before on a couple of occasions & the staff have been very friendly & helpful. In the end we walked out. A beautiful, cozy place for a drink or two. I appreciate the right volume of music - many places mistakes loud music with the atmosphere, but not here. The drink choice is quite impressive, including a couple of non-alc options. The nibbles are also nice, cheese selection is perfect.
