Costa Coffee — Restaurant in England

The young staff were very helpful & polite. Coffe was ok. However the interia is very dated, tired,tatty. In serious need of an update to compete with more upmarket coffee shops.took some friends who were visiting from down under.& was quite embarrassed to say the least being worried about any dust or bits of debris falling down into our coffee. From the peeled down ceiling un cleansed tables with trays full of dirty cups plates & rubbish on. Ihad to apoligise to my company for taking them to costa. Defiantly will not be returning again. Generally good, the service is good as is the coffee, the shop is too small but is in a great location, so it's a trade off, if the shop was bigger, it'd be perfect. I dropped one star because if you get there 1 - 1.5 hrs before closing they start to clean up outside and further decrease the capacity by stacking chairs, this makes me feel unwelcome and tells passing foot traffic to go away. I have also had issues with excessive noise when inside and the staff are cleaning, I am there to have a coffee and chat with my wife, as such I would like us both to be able to hear each other speak, not have to keep repeating our sentences after the previous attempt was drowned out by the noise of tables and chairs being dragged...

Rude and offensive. I regularly use Costa Coffee as a quality service and product. Today I have reason to question this. On a visit today I noticed a notice saying that as of 2nd November no news papers would be provided in the future. As it is the 30th October I enquired if papers are available. The young man I spoke to told me there are no papers as customers steal them. I said I was disappointed as it was a benefit of enjoying a coffee at Costa. The young man told me I should therefore approach a customer with a paper and prevent them from stealing them! Not what I understand as customer care.
