Costa Coffee — Restaurant in England

Visited today for the first time in two years and was shocked to discover how quiet it was. All soon became clear. There only appeared to be one barista, which might explain the lack of sugar at the counter (we had to ask for it, at which point she disappeared to get some more stocks and returned to painstakingly refill the counter supplies, leaving us to wait rather than giving some to us first, knowing that we were waiting). Then I found that despite having three coffees we'd been given one spoon between us. When I went back to the counter to look for two more (while the lone barista was still in pursuit of sugar), I discovered there were only forks. The lattes themselves were insipid at best, tasting more like tepid coffee milkshake or Gaviscon with a few coffee grains stirred in. Never mind there were absolutely no vegan choices available -not that I'd dare ask for food when a decent coffee seemed to be beyond the staff member's capabilities. We won't be visiting again. Disappointed. First visit to Costa Northallerton. Three staff on duty but there were tables full of dirty mugs and plates from previous visitors. We had to clear away our own table and clean it with the cleaning solution that was on the end of the counter and some paper napkins. No clean small cups available (due to tables not being cleared) so we were served our drinks in oversized cups. WC was in need of a clean up, nothing that wouldn’t take staff 5 mins to do though. It was a great place for your every day coffee. There have been a lot of staff changes recently and they seem to be struggling with the basics such as making good coffee in a friendly and efficient manner I felt like an inconvenience this morning. It took 4 attempts to make my coffee and it still wasn't great. Manager does not seem to have the support and confidence of his staff. Not sure I'm going to continue with my daily...
