I do not usually give a bad review but this needed to be said. We were a party of 12 adults and five children on New years Eve. When we entered, we were shown to our table. The music was so loud we couldn't talk or hear each other. The appetisers were served. I explained that some of our party didn't eat pork and could we have more falafel instead. The waitress asked the manager and he said that that was all they had. So I asked for more bread for the table which after a little while they brought it to the table. The staff were so busy, they couldn't be attentive. Between courses, we waited at least 20 mins for our plates to be cleared. We weren't offered more drinks, we had to ask. One of our party was delayed, so we asked if we could stagger the meals coming out, and we were told no. Starters came, which were okay, not the best I've tasted, but okay. Then the steaks came out, they were cold. We had no steak knife, so we had to cut it with a butter knife, which was quite difficult. We ordered children's meals. My grandson had meatballs with pasta. His pasta came out minus the meatballs. We had to ask at least three times where they were, his pasta was getting cold. I told him to start his pasta while he was waiting. He waited at least 20 minutes for the meatballs. He had almost finished his food by this time. Then the desserts came out. My son had the raspberry and lemon dessert. It was rock hard, and he couldn't cut into it. He told the staff and was told that if they replaced it, it would be exactly the same. He went without. The orange cointreau creme bruleee was terrible. The worst creme brulee that I had ever tasted. It just wasn't a creme brulee. We left before the celebration of New Year started, so we did not get offered the 'bubbles' we were promised. The music was deafening. The manager, upon paying for our meal, didn't ask if our evening was okay. He was downright miserable and didn't even look us in the face. Considering how much our party spent, I expected more. Better service, food, atmosphere but......... I will not be visiting Cosy Club Taunton again. Exeter Cosy Club is always a pleasant visit, but Taunton, you let us down. If you can't handle large parties on New Years, don't book them. A spoilt New...
Read moreI have eaten here a couple of times for lunch - it's never been 'stand out amazing' - probably a 3.5 star.
However for the first time, I tried it for breakfast and it really was bad. I ordered the cooked breakfast which comes with all the standard ingredients. My girlfriend had the ham hock hash which I only had a bite of and it was kinda flavourless and sloppy.
Both of us had a poached egg, both of which were over cooked. Literally not a single drip of soft yolk - I don't know how it can be done that badly. We don't usually send things back, but on this occasion we both asked for another poached egg.
I could tell the bacon was left out for a while before serving it to me - it wasn't over cooked - but extremely tough, in areas it was too dry to swallow. the sausage was in the same form, left out to long so was very dry on the outside and wrinkled up. The "sour dough" toast suffered the same ill treatment - it certainly wasn't a good quality sour dough, but even so, it was over toasted and then left out. It's texture resembled more of a dry weetabix than bread.
The grilled tomato was sour to the point it made my face squint - I understand not being able to source good quality tomato in England, but adding sugar to counter-act it is standard practice and should have been done here.
The potato rosti and coffee was just about the only thing I actively enjoyed - coupled with the hip decor probably saved this place...
Read moreI don't like doing negative reviews but sorry, honestly is important. Lovely welcome from the hosts, and our waitress was good for the most part. The food, how disappointing. We had a couple of drinks and some olives while we chatted. Olive were lush, but I guess they came out of a tin or vac pack? Pint and a glass of wine came, glass of wine went back as there was lippy on the glass. (Wine just poured into a new glass, not a fresh pour either) We ordered sour dough bread and butter, prawns on toast, fried halloumi, arrancini, and bang bang cauliflower. Everything was so salty! I mean everything. The bread had a salt crust, the butter with it had a generous handful of sea salt too. The Halloumi was over deep fried, the arrancini was also over deep fried. The bang bang cauliflower was not coated and fried, which to me was strange, as it's always been that way when I have had it before. Jo said the prawns were nice but really didn't need the huge hunk of toast. We had a bottle of wine as well. £84 was a price tag that really didn't match the quality or quantity of our experience. The waitress did ask us if everything was alright, but didn't really wait for an answer. Will go back for a drink but deffo not the food. For a hugh street chain, this really should have been a much better experience. Wish we had gone to Nobregas for...
