We recently dined at The Hideout in Taunton and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the staff and promptly shown to our table. The service was friendly and attentive, setting a welcoming tone for the evening. As someone who frequently orders scampi when dining out, I like to think of myself as a bit of a connoisseur, and naturally, my wife and I both ordered scampi, opting to swap the salad for extra peas. Our son went for the cheese and bacon burger. The food arrived within 15 minutes, expertly delivered by the young chap from behind the bar, who impressively balanced the plates on his arms while letting us know the plates were too hot to handle—though, with my "teflon hands," that wasn't an issue! The meal itself was delicious. The seasoned fries were a particular highlight, with just the right amount of rock salt to make them addictive. The scampi, though smaller in portion (9 pieces), was cooked to perfection—crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. As a scampi aficionado, I was very pleased with the dish! The venue was exceedingly clean and tidy, and the staff remained friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Accessibility was also excellent, with step-free access making it easy to navigate the space. Overall, The Hideout provided a fantastic dining experience, from the warm welcome to the delicious food and impeccable service. Highly recommended!

I was lucky enough to have never had a bad meal in a restaurant - until tonight. Hideout lost our 17 person booking for 6.30pm (Weds) as well as the pre-orders. They couldn't serve some of the pre-ordered dishes for some reason, so there were a few people who needed to choose something else. We were given 1 free drink each and 33% discount for the trouble. Other drinks were very overpriced - 8.80 for a double gin and lemonade. It took 2 hours for the food to arrive, and when it did the burgers and fries were luke warm but burgers were also overcooked. Onion rings were very pale and wet. There was only one chef, one waitress and one bartender (+trainee) that I could see. We complained about the wait time and quality of food but the staff were unable to give us any further discount. Whilst the waiting staff were apologetic and pleasant, the food was beyond sub-par. A very disappointing leaving meal for two of our colleagues. I, among others, will not be returning. This place needs a massive overhaul in the way its staffed and managed.

A great place for a drink in the centre of Taunton historic views and historic buildings are all around. The staff were welcoming and friendly, lots of choice of drinks and served up in sparkly clean glass. The interior is interesting and clear from the various signs around the place that the people who run this are smart, & know what they are doing. I read the sign above the bar and agree wholeheartedly with it! šŸ˜‚ We were here on an early Monday night on a sunny but chilly April 30. This would be great for a coffee or cider on a hot day.... Outside. Or a bustling evening at a weekend. Will be back soon..

Feel so gutted as this place is usually such a great place to have drinks. Just do not recommend the food. Went here with my partner on a Saturday night. The place was lively as expected so when we got to the bar we asked for our table reservation. We went and sat down. We had to order at the bar which was absolutely fine, think lots of places do that now. When we ordered we were told the cocktail I had asked for was out of stock, not a problem so I chose a different one, then we ordered the steak and bbq chicken but was told the steak was not on the till, luckily i believe it was the chef that served us so they managed to put everything through and we took our seats while grabbing our drinks too. We didn’t have to wait long for the food and as it was Saturday it would have been understandable if we did. What really bothered us however is the state the food arrived to us at and the service following. The bbq chicken looked fine, it was abit cold which was a shame but we aren’t ones to complain so my partner just carried on and ate it. It was only later he discovered the middle of the chicken breast was undercooked and bright pink. I wish I had taken a photo but he refused to touch it then after he’d noticed. The steak I had ordered was asked for ā€˜medium’ but it was well done, dry, stone cold and chopped up. The only reason I can imagine it had arrived pre cut was the lack of cutlery we were given. When given the food we were told ā€˜I’ll just get some cutlery, do you want any sauces’ in which we asked for salt and pepper and tomato sauce. We sat for 5 minutes waiting on this while our food got colder and colder only later to see the our server walking around outside assuming on a break. My partner got up to ask again for cutlery in which we were told the kitchen were ā€˜making some up now’. Another 10 minutes go on and nothing. We were so hungry by this point I had pretty much eaten my meal with my hands. My partner went up to the bar a third time to ask for cutlery as he didn’t want to get bbq sauce all over him in which the poor bartender had to grab some quickly. We didn’t bother with sauces in the end and after the pink chicken my partner just wanted to leave. We both did. During all of this aswell we were seeing other customers being served fries and snacks WITH cutlery and sauces. It was so disappointing as we had reserved this table for an occasion and were really let down. I understand Saturdays are busy but with that level of service on meals I would just stick to serving drinks and snacks. Don’t bother offering a food menu. To top it off my partner ended up getting food poisoning and spending the next day in bed with a sick bucket. Never had such a...

Made an online group booking for 15 people for a leaving do. The Hideout asked for a pre-order 1 week in advance. Rang and spoke to a member of staff and was informed that I can send pre-orders 1-2 days in advance and also increase the booking size if needed. Pre-orders were sent 5 days in advance, I even rang to check they were received and was told they had received. On the day 2 people cancelled due to sickness, I sent a message and tried several times to ring the Hideout but there was no answer. When the party arrived we were told by Hazel that the pre-order had not been received and also that some of the menu choices were not available due to supply issues. Interestingly one of our friends had the same issue when they had a Christmas booking at the Hideout. We received apologies and were only given a 33% discount after we asked. Initially it was agreed that a discount would be given on all food and drinks. Later this had changed to 1 free drink for each guest and 33% discount for food only. We were told there would be a wait for food and that there was only 1 chef working. 2 guests were oncall and we were told their orders would be prioritised but unfortunately they didn't prioritise the right orders. A few starters came out 1hr after we'd arrived, the majority of food came out after 2hrs with the final orders served at 9pm. Some people's food were lukewarm whilst some were burnt. People were so hungry we thought there wasn't much point complaining anymore. Felt sorry for the staff that were working, they were very apologetic, very aware of the issues and clearly had no support from management. Overall an extremely disappointing night, would not recommend a Green King pub and will not...

We (three adults) visited The Hideout on Wednesday evening. The young lady serving us was very polite. We asked if food was available to be told it was. Get a table and order at the bar. So we decided on our food order and went to the bar.

The order was for two burger meals and fish and chips.

The waitress then visited us at our table to tell us there weren't any burghers (!!!!). So we changed for fish and chips and thought no more of it.

Another visit from the waitress to then tell us there wasn't any fish (!!!). So we changed to steak and ale pie with fries.

Another visit form the waitress to tell us they didn't have fries only chips.

At that point i asked if it was easier to tell me what food they had, and in fact, why weren't we told this before we ordered? At that point, i restated that there weren't any burgers, there wasn't any fish and there weren't any fries? The waitress apologised.

I told her to forget about food. We would drink up and leave.

I did suggest that for a restaurant such as it was, to not have the basics of food was disgraceful and whoever did the ordering needed sacking! I further suggested that they shouldn't even charge us for the drink each we had. There was a lady from management at the bar who had a few mumbles and comments, but did offer to refund us the drinks cost.

I accept things do run out, but this place is all about burgers, fish, chips etc. Really??? I think the most annoying part was we could have been told when we were about to order food rather than going through a charade i suppose in what appears to be the management (or chef??) hoped we picked something they had got! After three attempts,...
