I'm really sad to have to write this review. We visit The Crown regularly and have always enjoyed our food and the hard work of all the staff. Especially during these difficult times. However, this weekend, we called in on Saturday morning and were lucky to get a table pretty quickly. As usual, our order was taken in the usual friendly manner. Pretty soon our 2 pots of tea arrived and we then waited for our breakfast. By now, it was very busy and we could see that the staff were rushed off their feet. After nearly an hour, our food arrived (we did think it was a bit strange that lots of people who had arrived after us, seemed to be getting their meals before us) It soon became apparent that our meals must have been overlooked and standing for some time. As they were only luke warm at best. At this point, we decided to eat them, as we could see that it was extremely busy and it would have been a long wait for replacements. Unfortunately, later that day, we both started to feel unwell. By the evening, we were really suffering and by Sunday morning were unable to get out of bed. It was only by mid morning on Monday that we were able to eat some dry toast. Following a phone consultation with the doctor, he stated that he suspected food poisoning. This was such an unfortunate incident and nothing like the positive experiences we have had at The Crown in the past. It was also the first time ever, that no one had actually asked us how our meal was. But, again, we do appreciate that it was an extremely busy morning. Understandably, this has put us off from visiting again any time soon. As my opening comment said. I'm so sorry to have to write a...
Read moreDisappointed, we spent ages on trip adviser and this place was one of the top places to visit. We were told on ordering our meal, it would be 50-60 minutes, after 1hr 20min I had to go and see where it was as I had 4 very hungry children and teenagers. 7 of us all together, mixed meals, son had mixed grill, the chicken was so cold inside he gave it to the dog, the sausage was solid and unedable ( the dog enjoyed it), I had bangers and mash, plain pork sausage deep fat fried & again hard, should have been Cumberland not plain, no onion, Sirloin med rare came out well done and cold, I only complained about mine and tbf the lad refunded straight away, all the meals were eaten, we were starving and like I said waited 1hr 20min but the only meals that was really enjoyed was the kids fish fingers and the Donna kebab. The staff ( both of them ) were run off their feet and I felt sorry for them, no complaints at all with the staff, nice polite lads and the pub was nice and clean. Only saving grace was the 20%discount for my blue light card, it would have been £93 wasted as apposed to £75. We walked out wishing we'd gone to Greggs a few...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wouldn't waste your time or money ...I spoke to the manager and explained that I hoped the food was better than the toilets because there was soiled toilet roll on the floor along with broken locks.
The soiled toilet roll was totally ignored by the staff who checked the toilet moments before I visited and admitted to me that she'd seen it however hadn't addressed the issue.
The food was cold because they wasn't expecting it to be busy on a bank holiday Sunday. We got a refund for the food although the member of staff who failed to ignore the toilet issue said that if she was the manager she wouldn't have issued a refund, absolutely disgusting behaviour.
We spent an hour here and when I went to the toilet before leaving there was an out of order sign on the toilet mentioned above and the door had been secured...
