Guildford — Restaurant in England

What a treat to stumble into a proper boozer these days. We were randomly in the area, and my partner said this was the only pub around. It said great food so we thought we’d give it a go. We weren’t sure about our dog, but when we got there, there was a big sign outside saying ‘dog friendly’ which, coupled with the booming rock music coming from within, reassured us we had made a good choice. Which was confirmed when we got two pints for under a tenner. The food was really good value, and although it was a Greene King pub it didn’t feel like chain menu food; it had a fresh, home-cooked quality. The live band was excellent, and the only gripe is that the piped music when the band were on a break was incomprehensible rave music, which was a total mismatch with clientele, who were enjoying the live 60s, 70s and 80s rock. This is a friendly and welcoming local pub with lots of regular customers. And for good reason. Although I am not one of the 'regulars', I always feel welcome. The staff are friendly, and although, as I say, it is not a regular for me the staff are very friendly and often remember my 'usual'!. Vicky served me today and as usual, she was very polite and always welcomes you with a smile. The food is good value pub food, and although it is part or a large chain and menu is the same as many others, it is always cooked well and served promptly. It's dog friendly which is great!! I would like to highlight that the Guildford is a very friendly pub. I had my Wife's 40th Birthday hosted by the Pub. I would like to state it was a lovely evening. Tanith the Manager and her staff were all very helpful and well organised. The Party went off very well. Was a brilliant enjoyable evening, everyone who attended gave me great feedback that they had enjoyed the evening. Decor is great, the Pub food was great and is always very nice I recommend it for anyone thinking of eating there.
