Summary: Visited on bank holiday weekend with family. Great food, good service and decent value for money.
Location: On the high street of Taunton, this wasn’t just another British-Indian restaurant. Easy access and plenty of parking on street outside.
Ambiance: The restaurant is not too big but ambiance is nice and cosy. It can get too crowded too quickly and therefore noisy too. Not an issue though.
Facilities: It has a bar, decent sized tables and comfortable chairs. Toilets to use but not in the perfect condition and not very clean. Wouldn’t rate it lower for just this.
Service: On our visit despite bank holiday the restaurant wasn’t overly busy but near to full. We sat down and ordered drinks and shortly later starters and mains. The food arrived quickly but overall staff isn’t the best trained for hospitality. It’s just average service. It’s hard to get staff’s attention and therefore it can take a while to get your needs met whilst eating/reordering.
Practicality: For a niche cuisine restaurant this place is very well placed location wise. Easy parking outside. Opening hours are reasonable. Their online presence is good which allowed us to find them and book a table over a phone call at short notice.
Value for money: The items were fairly priced. Quality of food was pretty good not at all British-cised. Authentic Nepali-Indian cuisine. Portion sizes were also better than average Indian restaurants.
Pros: Food. Menu variety. Value.
Cons: Service. Overall cleanliness.
Items to order: Momos, Aloo bodi tama, Banta and Gurkhali Mix Veg - all breads were good too.
Items to avoid: Samosa, Chana masala
Highlight (if any): Starters were brilliant. Momos were too close to authentic Tibetan/Nepali momos. Food items have...
Read moreWe recently visited Gurkha 3 to celebrate my brother-in-law’s birthday, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. Despite the restaurant being very busy (a clear sign of its popularity), the service and atmosphere were warm and welcoming, creating a lovely environment for a gathering of family and friends.
The food was exceptional. My wife enjoyed the Chicken Bhuna, which was bursting with flavour and perfectly spiced. I had the Chicken Korma, a creamy delight with tender chicken that melted in the mouth. We also shared Peshwari Naans, which were light, soft, and had a wonderful hint of sweetness that complemented our dishes beautifully.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience, and the quality of the food and service exceeded our expectations. Gurkha 3 is a place we would visit again and wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who loves Nepalese and...
Read moreEverything about this place was great. The food. The taste. The service. The whole place. The people. The food taste was divine. I would definitely go again and again to this place. The service excellent and the food comes sizzling to your table ready for you to dig in. I really can't think of any other words to describe this place. You can really feel the taste of the culture. No wonder the place was crowded with people Waiting to have their taste buds explode with authentic food. They even give you a chocolate and hot towel after food which shows the amazing service. Overall I definitely recommend it and would definitely go again....
