Xmas works gathering, we decided to go here as it was local to us all and our previous visit a few years back was awesome. My how things change...
Firstly, the menu - whilst it offers all sorts of great sounding food, the prices are absolutely RIDICULOUS. You could get a full meal from ping pongs for the price of just some of the starters. We hoped the prices justified the quality of the food.
In a nutshell, nope. The size of the main courses are shocking, I have genuinely never seen such small portions of food and they don't even come with sundries such as rice or noodles - these are all extra.
It would have been great if they'd actually brought the entire meal out within reasonable time as well, we were still awaiting rice and sauces a good ten minutes after some of the microscopic mains were placed before us. Granted the place was busy, but thats no excuse - don't bring half a meal out if the other half isn't even ready.
When we objected to the time it took to bring out the missing food, and pointed out that Rami's chicken was warmer when it was running around its coup, we were completely blanked by the waiter. (Maybe laiter would be a better name for him, the food certainly was)
Overall the food was good with a few exceptions ( sweet & sour sauce looked and tasted terrible) but the overall experience left us all feeling short changed massively at the astronomical prices compared to the sizes of the portions.
And the irony was not lost in the repetitive playing of Band Aid's "Feed The World" on the stereo.. not only was it kind of fitting with the measly portion sizes, but there was something not quite right about allegedly having a banquet with the theme tune to the infamous 80's famine as a soundtrack. Feed the world? Turn it in, you struggled with seven of us.
I suspect reading other reviews, this place is living on past reputation and pulling the wool over some eyes. It comes to something when one of us dropped in on his way home to pick up some more Chinese from another outlet!
Needless to say we shan't be popping back in any time soon. A real shame as the previous owner had a fantastic reputation which justified the price...
Read moreJust to put the record straight, Jack is no longer the owner of this restaurant and he hasn't been so for 2 years on Christmas eve.
He sold the business to the current owner lock, stock, and barrel. However, the current owner still gives the impression that he is working for Jack.
If you have enjoyed your visit then fine, but if you have had a poor experience please don't hold it against Jack, as I said, he sold the business...
