Bit of an update.... went in for lunch the other day and had a great lunch in 30min... that's 30min in and out without rushing my food! Review raised from 3 to 4... they can be quick. Slow is how I would describe the experience... now don't get me wrong sometimes slow is good... but alas, not the case here. You just have to wait a long time for things to happen. I have been here many times so I would by telling porkies if I said I didn't like the place. The beer is good but not as good as it was 5 years ago. The food has really not changed in that time either... same stuff, they don't really understand the meaning of the word seasonal. The food is reasonably priced at lunch times, slightly over priced in the evening, the portions are massive and have a classical French style; think butter, cream, booze and meat. Sundays are the time to go though in my book the Sunday roast service is great. Still takes some time, but they do a darn good one. The deserts are fabulous but you will never have room for one as the portions are massive (they don't understand the concept of a 'light lunch'). They don't do starters... don't bother with the bread it's not worth it. There are not a lot of places to go for a posh night out in Swindon and, I have to be honest, this is one of the only bets if you don't want to pay for a taxi out of town. I give it three as I think it could be a lot better if only it tried... but they don't seem to care. There are other places in old town if you like a different style of cooking. I just wish they would put a bit of effort in!

My partner and I recently enjoyed an exquisite dining experience at Harper's Steak House, where the captivating atmosphere and tasteful decoration added to the overall charm of the establishment. Choosing the ribeye and sirloin steaks, we were pleased to discover that they were cooked to perfection, achieving the ideal medium-rare doneness. While the peppercorn sauce comes highly recommended, I would suggest a slight adjustment to the parsley butter sauce, as the parsley flavor was a bit overpowering. However, our specific request for crunchy chunky chips was flawlessly executed, arriving at the table precisely as we preferred. Our dessert experience culminated with the shared banoffee waffle—a generously portioned delight that easily satisfied two individuals. The waffle's harmonious blend of textures and flavors left a lasting impression, providing a delectable sensation that lingered on the palate. Asha, our waitress, distinguished herself with her amiable and approachable demeanor. Her proactive and attentive service, which included regular check-ins to ensure our well-being, offering water unprompted, and maintaining impeccable table hygiene, undoubtedly elevated our dining experience. Asha stands out as a paragon of exceptional service, making our evening notably pleasant and establishing her as the most congenial waitress we've encountered in quite some time—a true blessing to our dining experience.

First time we came here was absolutely amazing - shared on my Instagram how great my lunch was so was really looking forward to the roast however when we got the restaurant we ordered our drinks and then 10 minutes later our food, our food arrived before our drinks and we didn’t actually receive our first round of drinks until halfway through the main having to remind the staff we had ordered, we then ordered another round and a jug of water and we were left waiting again for nearly 30 minutes just for drinks. Staff were really pleasant so review is not a reflection of them but the food was not good, hard vegetables, burnt Yorkshire puddings and the potatoes dauphinois was drowning in oil or something that made them practically inedible as you can see in photos. Really disappointed as it’s a beautiful venue and our lunch before was great - definitely wouldn’t be back to pay £16+ for the roast however and shocked at how long the drinks took, especially when waitresses were stood around while we waited for our drinks. Torn as to whether we’d come back based on today’s experience, but couldn’t fault the previous visit.

UPDATED REVIEW Had possibly the best roast beef I've ever had here today for my zsunday roast. The food was incredible - perfect beef, wonderfully crispy roasties, a banging yorkshire pudding and a great selection of seasonal veg. You get unlimited roasties, yorkies and gravy eith the roast however me and my partner were too full with the original serving to order any more - certainly a great portion for the price and most importantly, high quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Will 100% be coming back for anoyher Sunday roast soon! PREVIOUS REVIEW First visit here since it's become a steak house and was not disappointed - the steaks were DELICIOUS. The dirty mash side was absolute heaven. The staff were attentive and polite. Best steak house in Swindon for sure! Will definitely be coming back. PREVIOUS REVIEW Came here for dinner with a friend tonight and the food was amazing 😁 Staff were friendly and polite and the menu had plenty of choice. Prices also very reasonable for the quality of the food. Would definitely recommend!

A unique and welcome change to traditional pubs and eateries. Harpers Steakhouse offers a dining experience like no other within an old restored building that invites anyone to dine and drink inside. The menu is based on steak (obviously) however there are plenty of other options including vegan. We had the cauliflour buffalo bites and they were pretty good, tender, tasty and yummy. The chicken burger was also pretty well prepared with a very large breast which went down nicely. Staff are great and very helpful with recommendations on both menu and drinks. Lots of outside and inside seating arrangements for small and very large gorups of people. Large bar offering an extensive drinks menu including soft drinks. Wifi is available and free parking. Recommendations Fully recommended for any occation and next to the outlet mall, just makes it even more inviting. #garystribe #localguides #letsguide #foodblogger #swindon #steakhouse

We stopped by Harper’s Steakhouse for lunch one Saturday afternoon, and we’re certainly glad we did. The building itself is beautiful and had a great atmosphere. It was pretty quiet when we visited but I imagine it’s got a great buzz during the evening. The food was fantastic, fresh and above all else, extremely good value considering the quality. We shared some Buffalo Chicken Wings to start which were fantastic and some of the biggest wings I’ve ever seen. For the main we both opted for the Rump Steak. It was nice that you could choose your accompaniments including sauces. I stuck with a classic Peppercorn Sauce alongside Salad and Chunky Chips. The meat was extremely well cooked, the sauce was sublime, the Chips were lovely and crispy too. Service was friendly, and perhaps was a little slower due to there only being 2 staff, but overall it was a faultless experience and we would certainly 100% return in the future.
