We booked in advance without noticing that the restaurant was 100% vegetarian so entered initially with slight apprehension. The staff were absolutely amazing from the moment we walked through the door and the restaurant itself had an amazing feel to it and it wasn’t long before the apprehension subsided. The food arrived soon after ordering and if there had been any reservations they would have been quickly quashed with the standard of food. I have always been under the impression that a meal is not complete without meat and I can honestly say in all of the years of eating Indian food this was by far the best I have ever eaten. I would strongly suggest the Thali which is in the pre theatre menu, every element offered an amazing sensation on the tastebuds even with the absence of meat. There is a cocktail bar attached owned by the restaurant and that too had fantastic decor and matched the experience provided by the restaurant. The big question is will I return ?? Yes but not before I go to their other restaurant which is on the opposite side of the road, serves meat and has won a national curry award with similar menu but with added meat 😍

A bit disappointed with Herb and that's why. I'll start first with hygiene: I found no problems with hygiene at Herb. Everything seemed clean and well maintained. Food and Taste: this is the major part where my disappointment originated. The food tasted lower than average. I ordered a variety of vegetarian and vegan food to try out the taste. The only thing that I liked was the bread and the rice. Prices: this is the second source of disappointment. I ordered a dish that contains many side dishes. I expected that the price was fair but when I saw the portions; it was not. I ended up paying 32 pounds for the meal (see pictures) and two drinks. That was a lot. Atmosphere: I liked the place especially the little doors with the mirror next to the tables on the left side of the restaurant. It felt cozy and the Indian flute music was very relaxing. However, I didn't appreciate the fact that the place was overloaded by lightbulbs. Yet, the designer covered that with the dim lighting in the restaurant which I really appreciated and adored. Service: the staff was very polite, smiling and professional. This is why I gave three stars. If only the food was good, I would have given them four and half stars which I rarely give. All in all, pleasant atmosphere and service, not that much tasty food and a bit overpriced.

Really lovely staff. We ordered two beers (on arguably the hottest day in the hottest month in 33 years) and one was brought out, with an explanation that the other was on its way?!?!? The really nice guy came to take our order and was kindly explaining the menu and making recommendations to my non-veggie friend. During this, the waitress approached with the other beer, but seeing the guy talking with us, took it away again!!! What on earth...! Anyway, the food (and the beer - when we were actually allowed it!) was utterly delicious, very reasonably priced and the restaurant looked clean and well decorated - although we sat outside. Bjel Puri was sublime (every bit as good as those tasted at The Taj for breakfast in Mumbai!). Dosas to die for. Five stars all round for the chef. If you're of Keralan descent then you'll love it even more, but you may need to take ID to prove it! Will definitely return when next in Leicester!!

Herb has been visited many, many times now by me - the first time I had Thali, which had an excellent soup starter and a wonderful dessert and some decent curries. On a second visit, I went for main dishes of aubergine and papaya stew, which were of a very high quality, as were the breads. Good friendly service in a very clean restaurant. I hope you enjoy this place if you go. Lunchtime the thali is exceptional value and very high quality. The restaurant is renowned for the dosa - rise based flat breads. Many times, these have appeared on television in the UK. Service is to a very high and friendly standard. Awards have been won with good reason. A fantastic range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, many of which are complimentary to the food. It is one of the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants. Great decor. Spotlessly clean. Booking advisable at weekends and busy times. Thanks very much.

Herb was recommended by a colleague many moons ago. The thought of visiting this esteemed venue surfaced last week. I acted, taking the pilgrimage to its entrance on the finest day of the week. I was not disappointed. I felt, in all honesty, overwhelmed, when the menu was presented to me. I’m a Brummie, Indian food = curry+rice+nan. Herb offers a Keralan angle on Indian cuisine (proper vegetarian). One that I am unfamiliar with. Thankfully, with the staffs assistance, I found dishes of South Indian prominence. The Chilli Idli, Banana Boli, Appam and Business Lunch Thali (served with an epic dosa) made my tastebuds move to an exciting new rhythm. Very much like Birmingham’s Rajdoot, Herb transports all your senses to the birthplace of the cuisine. An immersive experience. When given the bill, I had to double check I wasn’t in Kerala, such was the low price. Awesome value for money.

Drove up to Leicester to visit Herb just for their dosa and the drive was worth it. On arrival, we were greeted at the door and shown to a table. Moments later, a waiter came and took us the menus. As a vegetarian restaurant, they had a wide selection of food, as much as I’d love to try everything on the menu, the portions are large so you’ll definitely be stuffed after one dish. We ordered the idli as starters and went for dosa for mains. The Idlis were good size, I would have like to have a bit more samba but it was delicious. As a massive fan of paneer, I went for the paneer dosa and my girlfriend went for the masala dosa, we both struggled to finish lol. I would have liked a bit more spice but I understand not everyone likes spice but never the less, they were amazing. As it’s Dosa fest, all dosas are £4.95, I’m not sure how long the offer is on for.
