Lovely stay at The Belmont Hotel, I stayed there 2 nights in January on Business. The rooms are very nice and spacious, large double bed and desk chairs and TV and kettle with range of teas and coffees and 2 bottles of water and biscuits. Bathroom was nice and spacious and bath was large with nice shower and heated towel rail. Nice range of toiletries. Bed was nice and comfy and the pillows were nice a mixture of hard and soft ones. Room was nice and warm and cosy and you didn't hear any noise from outside. The hotel is a boutique style with nice style rooms with a lift and a restaurant and bar. The breakfast was nice and fresh and cooked to order, allow approx 20mins, you can have full English or Eggs Benedict etc and then all the rest was buffet style like cereals, toast, croissants and fruit juices etc Very formal breakfast room with tablecloths and napkins. The restaurant was very nice you can have formal dinning in a room with table cloths and napkins or more non formal dinning in the bar, you can have the same menu in each. You can order from set menu 2 courses for £26 or 3 courses for £34. Or just order from the normal menu . I had fish and chips on the first night and then steak and gravy pie, mashed potato and peas on the second night and apple and pear crumble with custard. You get big portions and the food is lovely and tasty and hot when it comes. But the only downside was it took a bit long to come about half an hour to an hour. That was fine for me, but just bear it in mind if you don't have much time and have to be at a meeting or are going to see a show or have a train to catch. David was lovely though in the restaurant he was rushed off his feet, taking orders and serving dinners, taking payments at the bar. But he was very friendly and so helpful. The hotel is in a lovely area near the new walk, which is a lovely tree lined walk into town only 10 minutes walk, the train station is just...
Read moreA 4^ hotel 5-10 mins walk from De Montfort Hall. Ideal for a concert. Leicester is a bit of a maze when it comes to traffic. There's parking at the hotel but easy to miss. The sat nav (google) said we'd reached our destination but we missed it twice as it looks like a someones drive. The car park had about 5 spaces and we arrived at 3pm, there is an overflow car park though further in you can see the signs.
There is a daily linen/laundry delivery that sometimes blocks the car park entry so we had to wait 20 mins for that to move. I asked him to move but there wasn't anywhere for him to go. So if you're looking for the car park entrance it may be behind the blue truck!
Looks can be deceiving from the street, this is a lovely hotel. Rooms were spotless and comfortable. Large radiator and a small heater if needed. Coffee and toiletries are provided too. We had a view toward the car park on this ground floor room.
Hotel was tastefully decorated with lights and a large tree for Christmas. Check in was 3pm, check out was 11am. 24 hour reception although no one was there for checkout but a phone on the desk answered quickly said to leave card as all was good.
There are many entrances to this hotel so when gong out to De Montfort Hall we exited via the glass back door turned left and then took a right at the top of the road and the hall is on your left after the junction.
Breakfast was on a table service basis and we were seated and given tea. There wasn't a menu on the table so I got one off another table. It was a good while before anyone took our order but the menu was lovely, I had eggs Royal which was 2 muffin halves with pouched egg and salmon with hollandaise sauce, cooked to perfection. Husband had a full English and we helped ourselves to toasts etc. Fruit, yoghurt and cereal was...
Read moreThe hotel was not bad overall, however considering that I paid £160/night, I really do not think that this hotel should be charging this much if they cannot provide a matching service/facilities.
Positives: large room quiet and comfy mattress good location for the University nice furniture if you like vintage style furniture
Negatives: the flat screen TV was really small, I thought it was a bit of a joke (maybe double the size of my laptop screen?) the drain in the bathtub was rotten to the point you could not see the original silver colour there was no desk lamp and the lightening in the room was poor meaning it made it difficult to do my work the double bed was two single beds joined together, including having two separate mattresses I asked for the coffee to be brought to my room in the morning (as they offered breakfast served to the room but I only wanted coffee) and nobody came when I came down to order the breakfast, it took around 25 mins to get a simple sandwich as the staff did not have a clue how to order a sandwich and had to speak to their manager (?). the sandwich was terrible - it was a cream cheese that was salmon flavour rather than a salmon and cream cheese sandwich as stated. it took several hours and a few reminders before they managed to send me a receipt - I do not understand how it could have been so complex! no gym unless you pay more - again shocking with that price
I am really disappointed as I expected a bit of luxury and all I got was a fairly average room for such high price. I have paid less for great hotels in London so I am shocked at the price...
