Hot Potato Shop — Restaurant in England

I ordered food from this place at 6:32 and expected it to be delivered in good condition. By 7:10, I called the shop to check on the order, and I was told that the food had already been prepared 30 minutes earlier. I explained that the order hadn’t been collected yet and asked if it could be remade fresh to ensure it wouldn’t be cold or soggy, especially the chips. Unfortunately, when the food arrived, it was only warm and clearly microwaved rather than freshly cooked. This completely ruined the experience, as the food quality suffered and it felt like they didn’t take my request seriously.

I understand delays can happen and that the delivery driver is separate, but the restaurant should take responsibility for timing their food preparation so it arrives fresh and hot. I think with most reviews it's clear this place was a heritage to Belgrave Road. It has a loyal base of customers based and I use to eat here all the time in my teens.

Now 40+ visiting Leicester I thought I'd see if it still hit the spot.

The shop itself looked the same and felt familiar. The staff were all new, so clearly it's changed management but still friendly and knew the history of the shop, being locals as well.

I ordered one thing I always had and what I remember it being famous for, the chip butty special.

To be fair, it was really good and brought back the memories of the 90s. It had the soft bap, loads of chips, the relish, cheese and a touch of chilli powder. Yummy 😋

Chips was VERY VERY dry. I spoke to the owner to express what I felt towards what I received, and I did not want a refund, just wanted to pass on my feedback, but he did not acknowledge my comments and mentioned how there has been no complaints regarding their chips, but I was the one who had previously complained over a year ago. There are numerous comments by people on Google who have reviewed and mentioned this exact same thing.

Something fundamental is wrong with their chips as you can’t eat it without sauce, comments from my 5 year old neice “it was so dry that I had to use water to push it down my throat” but they are not accepting that there is an issue, which is not great for the growth of any business.

I won’t be going back again, but hope they change things around...
