LAWAI SPICE — Restaurant in England

First order was fabulous. Went away very happy and couldn’t wait to order again. 2nd order was very disappointing and stressful. Mistakenly ordered for collection(baby brain and sleep exhaustion at work) in which we called straight away and apologised and agreed for delivery as we have a 7 week old and no car so wasn’t able to come out and had ordered as we had guests over who we had spoken highly of the last time we had ordered and we were all very excited to celebrate our newborn and have some much needed stress free meal. However it went downhill from here, after waiting over an hour for delivery (we were informed it would be longer which was completely fine) we were called by the delivery driver who was supposedly new to the area and couldn’t locate our address on the new estate. We tried multiple times to advise of the specific directions however he didn’t understand anything we were saying and kept driving round in circles on the estate further down the road and repeating back incorrect street names and in the end my husband had to walk 10 minutes down the road to collect the now cold food having pre paid for it and tried to ask the driver for 25 minutes where he was and if he could go back to the roundabout and carry on to the correct address. Over £70 worth of food freezing cold, two hours wasted and my Husband stressed out along with our guests and myself. A week later we have been offered a very sad £20 compensation voucher which not only they wish for us to pick up (don’t drive so not the easiest) but this wouldn’t even get two meals never mind 4 and fobbed off by the restaurant that is all they can do and numerous excuses piled on. Absolutely shocking and very sad that we have been treated this way by a local restaurant who has such great reviews. Having just moved to the area we were delighted to have initially found such a wonderful place however this was VERY short lived and now wishing we hadn’t reordered and spoke so highly of them to our friends. They obviously don’t care about their customer or their reputation....

This was our first time ordering from here as we didn't realise it wasn't the same owners as the previous restaurant here until recently. It is 100% definitely new people. We went in person to order as my partner had some allergies and wanted to double check ingredients and the guys couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. They were really funny and we had a good laugh with them before ordering our food to collect later. I've lived in Knaresborough for two years and have never had an Indian meal as good as where we used to live near Wakefield - until now - finally we have found a restaurant that serves absolutely impeccable properly cooked food that is clearly made by a genuine chef and not just reheated meat in a generic sauce.This had fresh vegetables and seasonings. It was spotless in the restaurant and all of the staff in between serving customers were cleaning, which is reassuring to see. This is now going to be our go to takeaway restaurant. Can't...

3 strikes and, I'm out... Was pleased to hear that the formally known "Spice Village" had changed hands, very much needed in my opinion.

First 2 times we had been were brilliant, couldn't fault the food or service, very accomodating and chatty, food has been excellent.

Last time we visited 19/8/23, was something else. As a vegetarian I ordered the vegetable Rogan Josh but was served a chicken Rogan Josh, unfortunately had not realised and had eaten some, I mean all you have to do is not put chicken into it... Server was a bit frustrating to say the least, which was also a bit unfortunate, the only thing we had taken off the bill was some onion rice. Sad to say we won't be returning for a while which is a shame as the food has been pretty good.
