I first visited May’s with friends about 6 months ago and the food was excellent and service ok as they were busy (Saturday morning). My wife and I were impressed enough to return this Saturday 8th August, sadly things were not the same. I had the Full English and my wife the smaller breakfast. After ordering we waited another 35 minutes for the food to arrive. When I mentioned my dissatisfaction with this, I was told that “well we are very busy and the food is cooked fresh and supplied locally”. Sorry it was NOT busy there were a lot of staff busily walking around but I could tell that it was not organised and certainly not effective use of the staff’s time, also when has it taken a competent chef 35 minutes to cook a breakfast. Certainly, none I know would take that long and even I would not take that long and I am not a chef. What has the food being supplied locally got to do with poor service. Now onto the food itself. My wife’s breakfast was definitely not hot, maybe could be described as warm and toast was almost cold. My breakfast was not so bad however the beans were only warm and the bacon just a touch to greasy. Upon telling the staff of this I was told (not asked) that I should of mentioned it at the time and not when paying (BIG Note: I at no time asked for any concession on me paying my bill due to the food being less than hot). My response was that as the food was slow in coming, I did not have time to wait for more food to be cooked as I had a car in the car park and need to get back to it. The response from the staff member was “VERY LOUD SILENCE”. I would also like to add that the staff members constantly opening the door to the outside and then leaving it open is not good for customers. The wind blowing through was quite strong. Yes I know that they need to open the door to go outside to see to the customers there but close the door, don’t make you customers suffer for your laziness. My wife a I were not the only customers to have an issue with the door, although in your defence none of us mentioned it to you and thinking back it was actually only really one member of staff who was the culprit for leaving it open. Please if you visit this establishment remember that you might have to wait awhile for your food and it just might not be hot. Best Of Luck. I hope you fair better...
Read moreI first visited May’s when it initially opened and was very impressed with the quality of the food. Unfortunately, on a recent return visit, both the Full English and the Vegetarian breakfasts were disappointing. While the pricing was reasonable, it matched the decline in food quality.
The sausages were overcooked, the bacon was of poor quality, and the eggs lacked freshness and didn’t appear to be locally sourced. Can’t be sure but the mushroom seemed as if they were tinned or just not cooked with love. On a more positive note, the flat white with coconut milk was excellent. Service was fairly quick, and we were seated without much delay.
However, the café itself felt a little run-down — the walls could use a refresh, and the salt and pepper pots were visibly grubby and in need of a wipe. The waitress who served us was polite, but one incident really stood out: an elderly woman using a walking aid asked for the bill, only to be told she had to walk to the till to pay. This was upsetting to witness, especially after she had spent time dining in. We ended up helping her out of the café ourselves.
Additionally, we were seated near the toilet, which gave off an unpleasant smell whenever someone went in or out.
Overall, nothing particularly special this time around — a real shame considering the promising start when they...
Read moreI have to start and say May’s Cafe is easily the best cafe in Burnham-On-Sea. My friends and I came and visited here after seeing the popularity through the reviews and seeing all the photos from their social media. We were all so impressed. The staff were so friendly, every single one of them. The food was incredible, nothing at all to complain. The pricing was just right for everything. They offered cakes as well, huge slices for a reasonable price that looked to die for and I spoke to one of the staff members and they said they were all made from a local baker in Burnham. Speaking of local, all of the products they use are all locally sourced! What more could you want? I really do recommend coming to May’s for some food, or definitely their drinks. Their coffee’s are one of the best coffee’s I have had in years!! The menu is so good and thought out. You have basic food on their for people who want something simple, yet they have different yet fantastic dishes for people who want to ‘explore’ when going out for food. From a tuna mayo panini to a classic English breakfast to a ploughman’s to a bacon, brie and cranberry panini!! All in all, I highly recommend coming to May’s. We had such an incredible experience, and will for sure be...
