Food was decent. Nothing exceptional about it. Atmosphere is great, location is unbeatable, Christmas decorations are lovely.
And that’s really it. Service made it impossible to repeat. 1) I love that it’s giving opportunities to all, but does it have to be a (lovely) non English speaking waitress? I had to settle for “just red wine” as “can I get a wine menu” or “what reds do you have by the glass” was met with “sorry I don’t speak english”. I am also not a native English speaker, I wouldn’t have dreamt of starting off as a waitress. 2) Premise being we were a large group so may not be your issue if you are planning on being 6 or less. We were 20ppl. On a u shaped table. They serve all the food on A.Single.Wooden.Tray… that is literally their whole thing. Said tray then has to be passed around. It is ridiculously heavy, so of course it almost dropped. As a result of this single tray for 20ppl we all ate at different times as we waited for sets of 6 to serve themselves and then pass it. no space to act like it was a buffet. To make matters worse we had to preorder the food weeks in advance, so understandably most had forgotten what they had ordered, it was all on a single tray, what do you even get. Which single tray so no way to assess how many portions were there. Manager claimed there were 14 of the appetisers, but it was the same tray that all other tables got, so not sure how 6ppl had same tray as 20ppl. Also you couldn’t count 14 prosciutto slices, but you could count 30 chillies. So this meant there wasn’t enough to go around. When asked if they could just being the orders individually I was met with “just have all those that ordered the same thing sit close”. I tried to explain that at a restaurant it is the food that needs to be moved to meet the customers and not the customers that need to make it convenient for the food. Also keep in mind that because of the single wooden tray principle: all allergies, vegetarian meals, etc were all served on same tray. Which is absolutely unacceptable. Desserts were “chef’s choice”, and were random broken off pieces of left over cakes and pies. Reminded me of my college days!
This joke of a dinner ended up costing us over £65 per person. Less than half drank (each couple had a designated driver), most left hungry. The tray idea is simply a way for the restaurant to avoid serving actual portions of the food and instead getting loads of fillers to make it look “rich”. Felt taken advantage of. Rude manager. Ridiculous...
Read moreWent on a Saturday night with my parents & boyfriend. When we arrived we were ignored for a good 5 minutes, making the guests sat by the door quite uncomfortable as they were trying to enjoy their meals. Eventually when the manager (guessing that's who he was) approached us, he informed me quite rudely that I'd booked our table for 2 people, not 4. The way he handled this was so uncalled for, as if he's never made a mistake in his life. His job is literally to make you feel welcome, and to offer a good service. Instead of letting us know whether he could accommodate us, he just walked away & hunched over his laptop and didn't communicate with us at all. Thankfully a lovely waitress came over to check we were okay, she then had to consult with her aggressive manager to check which (if any) table we could have. The service after this was spot on, we had a young male waiter who was looking after us perfectly well. But, then the aggressive manager took him into the outdoor/conservatory area which by the way we had view of and proceeded to tell him off, we're not sure what had occurred but this manager is so unprofessional & rude. You do not do this in front of guests, this is uncomfortable for everyone involved. Our waiter then informed us he was leaving, and somebody else would be looking after us. I assumed he was asked to leave by the manager, or felt as bullied by this manager as we did. It's a real shame, because apart from this we really enjoyed our meals, and the actual restaurant was pretty. I'm not sure I can bring myself to go back if this same manager is there, it was a very uncomfortable experience. And when you're paying to be there, you do not expect to be spoken to in...
Read moreAs Marlow residents and Megan’s regulars , I booked the large dining table for 1pm on Tuesday 12th August as a surprise farewell lunch for my daughter flying to the US for uni. I popped in with a balloon at 1130am and sorted the table out which I had increased to 7 people. We arrived shortly before 1pm to find that we had been moved to a table for 6 adults and an extra chair added awkwardly at the end. It was a tight squeeze for those at that end of the table. No apologies or explanation were offered regarding moving us /balloon etc. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy but we hadn’t received any menus by 120pm despite 2 requests as some of our party were on their lunch break. I acquired menus myself from the stand and we ordered drinks . A sparkling water was ordered but unfortunately never arrived. We approached 3 different members of staff to take our order as 2 members were on their lunch break , we chased several times and the food eventually arrived at 2.15pm. Due to the delay we had to have one of the meals boxed up for takeaway. We spoke to the manager who discounted the cost of the shakshuka begrudgingly as we couldn’t takeaway but offered no apologies for the poor service /delayed lunch. We regularly visit Megan’s and have always received good food/attentive staff. We were bitterly disappointed at the apathy and lack of customer service and unfortunately will not be returning until there is a significant improvement in staff training. This is a real shame for Marlow as it was one of our favourite restaurant’s offering good value and...
