This restaurant is only getting two stars (rather than just one) because the food is actually pretty good. The service? Not great at all. They seat more than they can handle or serve at a time. Maybe understaffing is an issue, which is understandable 100%, but they shouldn't continue seating if they can't handle their seating. There's a reason why you "wait to be seated", so they should be taking full advantage of that. The drinks are okay, the Bloody Mary isn't the best and the mimosa (or Buck's Fizz) is what you'd expect with pulpy orange juice (freshly squeezed).
I should also point out I work at a high volume restaurant as well. I was trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt. Short staffed or maybe busier than they're used to, but it still didn't make sense that a party of only 4 had to wait more than 20 minutes to put an order in -- let alone speak to an employee. I mean seriously. Three separate couples walked in and were seated almost 15 minutes after we had been seated and were served minutes before anyone had bothered to get to us.
The only part of this experience that made it somewhat worth it was the young busser -- Liam. He was so kind and tried to get us service as quickly as possible when we finally said something. The other two servers there weee quite rude and clearly not able to handle the capacity of the restaurant.
I would not recommend coming here if you want a quick and smooth brunch, as this place just doesn't provide...
Read moreMonty's cafe is a hidden gem in Windsor. Great menu and very varied. I had the fish cake salad and it was delicious. Lovely fresh, homemade fishes filled with fish and not potatoes, perfectly crispy breadcrumbs. So many people have the cooked breakfast and I can see why. Most items available for take away as well. The service is prompt, staff quite cheerful (a little happier old go a long away) the inside is here quite cramped but comfortable. Now for the BIG downside..... The toilets, oh my word do they need some sort of automatic air freshener. They are clean so it's not a hygiene issues but quite dark and dingy, no windows allowing for a change of fresh air and the air is as stale as a two week old loaf of bread. I just don't understand why they can't address this issue as many windowless organisations seem to. Please team Monty, sort the stale yucky smell out in your toilets. Fresh soap, hot water, baby changing etc is all there. Monty's is a fabulous independent cafe that I...
Read moreCute café and decent food for brunch but MAAAAN...the service was incredibly slow and the staff seemed to be confused about if they took our orders (multiple times) and forgetting other tables all together.
We stopped by on Sunday morning before heading back to London and were baffled by how flustered waitstaff were in forgetting orders as well as their customers. I was afraid to order something else for fear of having to wait an extra 30 minutes to hear back from anyone. Mind you, this is not a huge establishment, nor were they busy when we arrived. However, as tables filled up before we left, people started to leave after not getting their food and we were almost tempted to get the check before the food finally arrived. It was almost as if everyone was new. Maybe they were? But I hope to give this place a better review in the future because this was a strange experience and I was really looking forward to...
