This is an absolutely iconic place that you definitely want to see either before you go into Windsor or on your way out. We stopped by after our tour of Windsor Castle and it was a really beautiful place to see although we did out walk the whole walk.
The Long Walk at Windsor Castle is a striking tree-lined avenue that stretches for approximately 2.64 miles (4.25 kilometers) from the Castle's George IV Gateway to the Copper Horse statue at Snow Hill. The avenue was originally laid out during the reign of King Charles II in the 17th century and was later modified by Queen Anne and King George IV.
This grand promenade is flanked by an impressive array of chestnut, elm, and oak trees, providing a majestic and scenic route that is popular with both locals and visitors. Read moreThey don't call it the Long Walk for nothing it really is loooong. You cannot leave Windsor without having walked The Long Walk. I did it in December so it wasn't hot but it wasn't freezing cold either. When you start you have the King George III Statue in front of you only 2.65 miles away. As you walk towards the statue which is at the very end of the long walk the castle is behind you so that makes for the ideal moment for you to take a selfie with the castle in the background. This feels like a safe place to walk, hang out with friends, walk your dogs and have fun with your children. Obviously once you have reached the statue you gotta walk back to the castle so in the end you walk about 5.3 miles. The walk back is going to be more difficult because you are already tired but it is worth it since what is in the horizon is one the most beautiful historic buildings in the world...
