Unfortunately we didn't have the best experience. Despite the scaffolding outside which of course cannot be helped sometimes. We were greeted with a pretty empty place. Maybe 10 people in a place that could sit 100 comfortably, which was a red flag. The place was clean and tidy and pretty well decorated. Loads of potential for being a great place until you look a little closer, where it's a bit tired. The two girls that were working were surly doing their best, we thought maybe there was just a lack of training. The food didn't make it any better. My wife had the Squid which was watery and tasteless which screams that it was frozen. I had the Nachos, soured cream, guacamole and salsa were very poor quality. Saving grace for my wife was her steak which was well cooked and very tasty. I had a mixed grill, it wasn't great. Chips were dry, but portion size was good........ We didn't stay for dessert! It's a shame. This place has such potential, but it needs some love and management. Definitely not the best Steak House in Poole as it claims.

Rancho steak house is a wonderful restaurant and a great place on the quay to eat at. During my visit I ordered the ribs with steak-cut chips and the Rancho topping. The ribs themselves were cooked absolutely perfectly, they were very tender and soft. The topping was quite tasty and fragrant, however, it was very subtle and, in my opinion, not strong enough. The chips were cooked very well too. Service was friendly and the staff were quite attentive. My mother ordered steak and said she would not eat steak anywhere else after having eaten here, which was good to hear. Dessert selection was relatively limited (was not listed on their website) and was on a small chalkboard when we requested a desserts menu, regardless, I did not eat a dessert here so I cannot comment on it. From my experience, I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant.

On two trips to this restaurant the experiences were so different that, had we been blindfolded, we might have thought we were in 2 different places! On our first trip everything was excellent and service superb despite being out if some starters. However this time we were greeted and seated very pleasantly and our meals ordered. Starters were both French Onion Soup which was very tasty but served lukewarm. Nobody asked how the food was, and the main courses were quickly served. I could tell my steak was still raw by pressing the back of my fork into it. I drew the attention of the waitress who agreed and immediately whisked it away to be cooked properly. Meanwhile my wife's food stayed on the table getting cold. Steak was duly returned, properly cooked but not rested (not enough time) and we did enjoy the rest of the meal. Meal finished at 9:15pm and nobody comes to ask about dessert or the bill. We wait 25 mins and ask for the manager. We tell him the story and point out 3 wait staff who have been chatting while ignoring customers. Not good.

First attempt - booked table turned up only to be told the restaurant was closed but as they hadn't cancelled my booking the manger(?) Offered to cook us a meal of whatever he could find, we declined! Second attempt - 20 minutes to take a drinks order then another 30 minutes wait to take our food order, they did not understand that anaphylaxis allergy means it should be cooked separately and away from the allergen so be careful if you have a seafood allergy. The food was alright although the mixed grill was a little pathetic and apart from the steak a little charcoaled and they definitely can't cook eggs as mine were raw still in the centre and no I don't mean a runny yolk the white was still runny as well (shown in picture) We will not be going back for a 3rd attempt, I would hate to see this place busy as they couldn't cope with a half filled restaurant clearly
