It's even worse when this is the chef! Came to Rancho last night for about the 12th time to celebrate a special event. The service was average in terms of time from order to delivery. One of our group was a recent convert back to meat from being vegetarian for a number of years. She asked for a jacket potato and a medium cooked steak. The food eventually arrived. Everyone else had exactly what they asked for and their food was as they would have liked it to be. However, the former vegetarian was given a steak oozing blood and the steak was just past blue. To make matters worse her baked potato wasn't even baked. Well not in the last couple of days. Icy cold when it should have been piping hot. They bought out another smaller piece of steak that was still oozing blood which she didn't eat and rather than bring a replacement potato as ordered they brought a portion of chips without any explanation as to why she wasn't given another hot potato. In the meantime with a 12 foot view into the grilling area the chef could be seen aggressively moving food around the grill and not one of the kitchen team seemed to be having a good time. People who work with a smile on their faces clearly enjoy their job. These guys certainly weren't smiling! At one point the chef while throwing food around the grill dropped his tongs. and immediately picked them up off the floor only to continue with his manic meat manipulation with a grimmace! One of our dinner companions has worked in quality restaurants in the past and noticed this and flagged it up to the helpful/friendly waiter. The chef was informed that this had been noticed and then began rudely shouting across the kitchen and restaurant in pigeon english at our table defending himself and telling us that he used another pair of tongs. Very unprofessional indeed. If this was an average Thursday evening in May god help them on a mad Saturday night in July. Just to recap, the food was overall pleasant, the staff were mostly friendly and even credited our party for the unenjoyed and largely uneaten meal. Would we come back again? Probably.....but we wouldn't want the same experience from...
Read moreBeen here before and had a really enjoyable experience....this time it was not the case. Booked a table for 4 of us,had a friend over from Iran who we hadn't seen for 2 yrs and fancied a nice evening out to catch up. Staff were welcoming and we were shown to our seats.... Goes down hill from here📈.....had to wait 20 mins before someone came to take our drink and food orders...🫣 3 of us had unlimited ribs and one had a ribeye🥩 medium. Then had to wait a further 20 mins for our food to arrive..they forgot the chips🍟 and side salads🥗 The Ribeye was well done and the ribs were warm, not hot but were welcomed as we had to wait for so long.🕰️ Had a good time catching up and tried then to attract staff for some more Ribs U think we were ghosts...ignored and when eventually we got somebody attention we were greeted with a look like you've gotta be jokin...this was like 40 mins after our initial food arriving. They did arrive and glad to say they were piping hot however the size of the portion had dramatically shrunk😂🥩😂 Where we had a rib that filled our plate each this portion filled one plate rather than the 3!!!😱 If you advertise unlimited ribs please make sure you have enough staff on duty to greet and take people to their tables,to take there orders and ensure you can keep up with the need for RIBS‼️ A table of 6 people close to us waited so long to be seen they got up and left....loosing the restaurant over £200 pounds in business. We had a rib and a half each which is hok but certainly not the unlimited that is advertised for a Tuesday evening,NOT THE VALUE FOR MONEY THAT IS THE NORM.💷 I will have to think twice before I come again... A shame as previously we had been well looked after and the food was excellent... THIS TIME IT WAS AVERAGE AND SERVICE SLOW💤 AND NOT A NICE DINING...
Read moreI wish I took pictures of the food I was served because it is NOTHING like the slate presented art that is in the photos. I ordered a T-bone steak rare and a side of chips. Specified that I am allergic to tomatoes, garlic and onions so please to not include anything like that or have my food prepped on the same board. When the steak came out it was exactly that a hunk of meat on a plate with no garnish it was a large plate with a steak… a steak with no colour to it, barely seared and when I cut into it close to the bone it was still cold, not cooled down cold but fridge cold. I thought maybe my dietary requirements meant no salad and gave them the benefit of the doubt until I saw several plates go to customers the exact same style. In my years as a customer and chef I have NEVER seen a steak on a plate with nothing else at all. This brings me onto the clearly frozen chips but whatever it’s a restaurant in 2023 and they were okay BUT were clearly cooked in the same vat as the onion rings due to the severe reaction I had upon reaching my hotel. I was at the best part ignored by wait staff and eventually had to find someone so I could pay my bill and leave. Still tried to charge a 10% service fee.
I have had a few amazing, mediocre and terrible steaks in my life. I’ve cooked my share of terrible steaks. This was the worst I have...
