Pleased to hear that this fantastic pub once again is welcoming kids and families. I wish it all the success in the world. Best location ever, good luck and stay friendly. Previous review: Used to be a great pub. I’ve been enjoying it for 30 years and when I return to where I grew up it’s always the first place I visit. I’ve brought friends here on boats, family from overseas, and seen the pub through a succession of owners. However on this trip back I am no longer welcome as I have children. Children who also have been welcome in this pub since long before the present tenants took over and were as disappointed as I to be turned away. Why? Seriously? In 2022 is this even legal? Anachronistic and out dated. Stay away and with luck the current tenants will fail. Shame. On the plus side, lots of other pubs on Poole Quay have signs welcoming families so go...
Read moreWhat a little gem this wonderful pub restaurant is. Love the nautical and olde world theme. Small from the outside but like going into Dr Who’s Tardis inside with absolutely loads of nautical and interesting memorabilia, taking you back in time. Dropped in for a coffee and a pint for my hubby and seeing the amazing food being brought out we decided to have lunch too. So glad we did, we had Fish and chips not one but two large pieces of fish on each plate so perfectly cooked. Our friend had scampi which was equally as good. Very friendly staff and compliments to the chef. Best fish n chips around and very reasonable prices too. Also happy for our furry friends to come in too by the way. Definitely more than happy to recommend this lovely authentic pub and it’s food. Definitely be...
Read moreI have walked past ‘The Portsmouth Hoy’ on numerous occasions but this afternoon was the first time I have been in. The pub is very cosy yet surprisingly spacious. The staff were friendly. I only wanted something relatively light for lunch. A crayfish tails in Marie-Rose sauce sandwich fit the bill. It was generous in size and with a well prepared side salad. Drinks of Badger ales were also welcome. There was no background music which meant that I was able to sit, eat, drink and converse with family members without distractions. The ‘under 18’ rule was enforced whilst I was there meaning there were no screaming children to ruin the ambiance. This is a lovely pub. When I visit Brownsea Island this autumn I certainly plan to go there again for a more substantial...
