Miserable staff and disgusting cake!

The window display looked beautiful, full of tasty looking cakes and pastries, I decided on the hand made rum truffle as they looked delicious, but very expensive like most things they sell as we have been using this bakery for 25 years since our first trip to Devon so long ago.

But be warned, if something catches your eye in the window, your cake will not come from their display, it will be from inside a drawer or inside the display by the hot pastry machine, which is right where mine was from, it was warm and melting, who in there right minds puts chocolate next to somewhere hot?

When I got back to the car, it was all stuck to the paper bag, and when I tasted a piece, it was disgusting, just resembled sickly sweet runny icing with no particular flavour, awful, impatient abrupt lady who served me didn't really make me want it anyway, waste of money as it was meant...

A truly horrible experience. Took my grandmother and mum here for a nice lunch as they’re visiting from Ireland. They were eating their lunch upstairs when my partner and I popped back in to meet them as they were finishing up. We had drinks in our hands in “to go” cups from Costa a few shops down. We weren’t even there long enough to sit down or wait for my grandmother to put her jacket on before we were rudely told we had to leave. We were escorted down the stairs and had the staff member who was escorting us call us names,then as we left the shop we also saw and heard her talking to other customers and once again calling us names. Mum also overheard the staff upstairs discussing it amongst themselves and overall we were left feeling horrible in what is usually such a lovely town. Truly made to feel unwelcome and wouldn’t recommend this...

Recently ordered two birthday cakes for my children's special birthdays, one chocolate, one vanilla sponge, they were both absolutely amazing, looked fantastic, so tasty, the staff in there are always so helpful and friendly, but a special shout out to the cake lady who made sure I got exactly what I had in mind, thank you so much, could not...
