They booked us in but didn't have the space to accommodate us. I booked a table a week in advance for 10 people (staff meal for teachers) and got 8 seats instead (6 in reality as 2 people were just added onto the ends). They stuck 3 makeshift single tables of different heights together towards the back, next to the kitchen door of the restaurant so it was difficult for people and waiters to get past. When I complained the owner made all sorts of excuses and tried to convince me I had asked for 8 (even though we were really given 6 and we were squeezed into a space that shouldn't have been used to seat customers). I did book for 10, with at least 6 people who can verify this (he didn't want to listen to them either). After gaslighting me he then gave me what he thought was a solution - two people could sit at the front by themselves (for a work party!) and then made me feel like I was being unreasonable when I said this was not an acceptable solution. If it had been just me I would have left but it had taken a lot of organising to get everyone there and it was unlikely we would find somewhere else, so we stayed. Sadly our mood and night was ruined. We ordered the minimum, ate quickly and left disappointed. We will not...
Read moreThe table had been booked 2 weeks in advance, we informed them there would be kids so high chairs would be needed. When we arrived there were no functional high chairs, they had 1, but apparently it wasn't safe to use. They didn't seem too concerned and made no effort to rectify the situation. We had to go down the road and borrow one from another restaurant!!
Vegetarian options are limited and really basic, nothing exciting, especially on the starters menu. The food was quite disappointing, the sauces all seemed the same for several of the different dishes we ordered. I was most astonished with the Paneer Kofta dish, priced at £16.95 and sold as a 'special', it was not Paneer kofta! It was three, over fried tasteless potato dumplings in a bland cream sauce which had grated Paneer in it. Definitely not worth the money, it's not Paneer kofta and not authentic at all.
They only had one set of salt and pepper mills for the whole restaurant, so the staff had to keep removing it from tables to take to other guests. So strange.
No facilities for baby changing either.
Overall disappointed with the service and food, we won't be...
Read moreAs a Bangladeshi myself and experience in family run Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants i am extremely picky where I dine out. I visited after looking at the reviews which were relatively good. I was disappointed in the food as it was quite oily and high in salt. The both of us had a bad stomach from the food leaving us both in a lot of pain. Won't be revisiting again. The decor inside was nice. I agree with some other reviewers, very noisy inside hard to hear each other and staff talking very loudly to each other. I did think it was overpriced but thought I'd give it a go. Sometimes when the quality and standard of food is high it's worth paying for but I can't say the same for the food at Tamarind. There was a polish speaking waitress who had a family sat down near us and she was basically stood beside them the whole time conversating laughing joking loudly it was just unprofessional. Will not go...
