We booked a dinner at Tern for our anniversary and it didn't disappoint. Set in the spectacular art deco building at the end of the pier you gain access via the side steps sitting in a small and exclusive area at the back side of the pier. Around 6-8 tables the atmosphere is relaxing and delicate, beautifully decorated with greens and dark wood creating a quiet and peaceful atmosphere while you gaze out onto the sea and views of the coast.
We went with the 7 course tasting menu and started with a bramble cocktail which was decorated with a small edible flower. Packing a lively punch and coloured with a deep purple an underlying sweetness created a great cocktail to enjoy the views.
The highlights of the meal were the first course, a selection of finger foods of steak tartare, bread and butter pudding and razor clams set in a filo pastry shell. A delicious assortment of different flavours, highlighting the best of the British ingredients. The second course that stood out was the blow torched isle of wight tomatoes and pickled under riped strawberries. A beautiful combination of sweet and tarte, these were some of the best tomatoes I've ever tasted.
Throughout the meal the staff continued to set the relaxed nature of the restaurant. They were attentive but not annoyingly so, laughing and joking with customers throughout pouring wine, water and describing the dishes in a brief but insightful way.
Overall it was a fantastic experience, it was costly but we enjoyed every aspect of our three hours with the wonderful staff at Tern. As a long term resident of the Worthing area it's a wonderful addition to the town creating an elegent but relaxed fine dining experience set within a...
Read moreThe food here is beautiful, the best in worthing without a doubt, however the staff let the entire experience down and we all left feeling very uneasy. Came here for a 30th birthday celebration and opted for the 7 course tasting menu. We chose to have bottles of water and a soft drink with our courses as no-one at the table particularly enjoy's alcohol with food. We were sadly being laughed and sniggered at by the waitstaff huddled behind us when we very polity declined the multiple offers of wine throughout our meal. We made it quite clear that we would not be drinking that evening but we were asked on multiple occassions by each staff member to which they would walk back over to the little huddle of staff and very obviously laugh/snigger at us. All the three of us witnessed this as the restaurant was very quiet, only two other couples dinning so this was very obvious and clear as to what they were finding so amusing. All three of us felt incredibly uncomfortable whilst eating our meal. Upon leaving the restaurant one of the three girls VERY obviously looked me up and down as if to judge the dress I was wearing for my birthday, really distasteful and unprofessional sadly won't...
Read moreFinally treated ourselves with a visit to Tern, for our 10th wedding anniversary, having wanted to go for a while. The setting is fantastic. It was a cloudy evening so we didn’t get a sunset view, but the restaurant is beautiful looking and the table settings really classy. And it was nice watching the lights come on across the coast as the night drew in. Service was lovely - we were greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff. We were even given an anniversary card and a box of chocolates which was a very nice touch! We had the 7 course tasting menu, and we enjoyed every course! It was the perfect amount of food and all tasted amazing. Small, beautifully presented plates, and enough of them to fill you up. For drinks we started with some absolutely brilliant cocktails, and then had a really great Pinot Noir which I was pleasantly surprised to see was made about 30 minutes down the road. Don’t think I’d had an English red wine before. It was the perfect pairing for the food. Also really enjoyed the music playlist, which was mostly a mix of 00’s indie. All in all an absolutely wonderful restaurant experience. We...
