There’s something special about discovering a well-designed, inviting café that feels like a hidden retreat. The coffee? Excellent. Rich, well-brewed, and served right to your table—a small touch that always enhances the experience. Their selection of cakes and pastries looks as though they’ve come straight from a home kitchen, offering that wholesome, homemade appeal that chain coffee shops often lack.

One notable feature is their dog-friendly policy. While I’m not usually a fan of dogs in cafés, here, it somehow works. That said, if I truly wanted to dine in the company of dogs, I’d take a sandwich to the kennel!

We got our wedding cake from The Bakery at No.4 and it was superb! We are currently living in Devon so didn’t know Kendal very well and we chose The Bakery based off their reviews, website and photos and they definitely lived up to expectation. We went to the cake tasting and were blown away with the variants of cake flavours on offer and came out with totally different flavours than we went in wanting! We ordered a semi-naked cake with 3 different flavoured layers – raspberry & white chocolate, lemon & elderflower and chocolate Guinness. A must visit if you are in Kendal! I LOVE to visit Bakery No.4 at every chance I get. The atmosphere is instantly warm + welcoming, the staff are very friendly and attentive and the cake counter is to die for!! So many different options, including GF/DF/Vegan etc. and my personal favourite, any cake with the perfect amount of icing 😋. Plus, the servings are very generous, which means I usually ask if I can take the other half home 🤭 The counter also holds savoury items, including sweet potato Dahl pastries which are out of this world, and chorizo and potato stuffed sausage roll, along with delicious sandwich selections to go too.
