My husband and I have always loved visiting the Bargeman’s so we were excited to spend our wedding day here on Friday. However, it turned out to be quite an awful experience.
When we arrived the room was freezing cold, and all the radiators were off- it was -4 outside. All our guests had to keep their coats on.
Secondly, the staff were really rude and unwelcoming. We had family and friends present who had travelled down especially for the day, and they could not believe how frosty the atmosphere was. It was very clear they did not want to be there.
Not only this, but they were dragging my husband out the room constantly to moan about anything and everything. They were unhappy that some of our guests were drunk- I’m not sure what they expected to happen at a wedding? There were no fights, no rowdiness, and nothing to warrant the staffs behaviour.
This eventually lead them to closing the bar early and we were forced to leave early after paying until 11pm. This meant the DJ we hired also had to leave early. It was obvious that they all just wanted to get home so were looking for any excuse possible to get rid of us. They couldn’t get in there quick enough at the end to pack up.
I spent the last hour or so sat in the balcony outside in the cold because I felt so uncomfortable.
It’s safe to say we won’t be going there again, very upset that this will forever tarnish the memories of our special day.
Only positive thing I can add is the food...
Read moreBeing an islander all my life, I have always heard great things about this pub and I know my mum loves it for some quick pub grub. I have also vited for drinks on the odd occasion and enjoyed the cosy vibe.
However, I recently visited for food and really couldn't understand the praise for the place. We ordered the specialty burgers; a katsu and a chilli con carne burger. The katsu looked amazing, however it tasted completely flavourless and the salad dish was half full of water. It was an incredible disappointment. In comparison, the chili burger was, thank goodness, full of flavour, although, it looked like slop and was a stingy portion, certainly not worth the £18, especially considering it's obviously just been microwaved. Having said this, the people who work here are really lovely and service was quick.
My last and final issue was the fact that almost every table was reserved, the only table available was right at the back of the pub, an awkward table for 4. The whole time we were there, these reserved tables were sat empty. We were disappointed, as we could have easily sat in a nicer booth and left before the reservation even needed to be placed on the table. Obviously for anyone still reading this I would...
Read moreWe've just held our wedding ceremony, buffet and disco here upstairs in the Sail Loft on Friday and we don't know how the location, service and communication from the team could have been any better!
Dan & Jen were the leading organisers, but along with our bar team and kitchen team, they delivered a fantastic buffet, provided our guests with super bar service and presented a fabulous cake and sweet display on our behalf.
We had access early to setup and afterwards to clear up, personal toilets for our party and access to a beautiful balcony all day long. We were permitted parking for ourselves, our Registrars and our DJ which helped everything run smoothly.
Quite simply.. the whole experience was very competitively priced, made so easy for us and thoroughly enjoyed by all of those attending.
Thank you Dan, Jen and everyone at The Bargeman’s Rest who played their part to create a magical day for us.
Highly recommended to anyone in need for a function room as these lovely people know how to deliver and provide...
