A brilliant lunchtime experience — warm, welcoming, and well worth a visit.
I recently visited this pub for lunch with my mother and wife we’re all so glad we did — what a lovely place.
Parking was straightforward, with a large car park that includes a couple of disabled spaces conveniently located near the entrance. Access into the building was easy, with wide doors and no steps to navigate.
Inside, the space is surprisingly large, offering a range of seating options — from formal restaurant-style tables to more casual, cosy spots with comfy chairs. Several flatscreen TVs were showing sport during our visit, adding to the lively but relaxed atmosphere. There’s a large, welcoming bar as you enter through the front, and a spacious outdoor seating area at the rear.
Despite its size, the venue felt warm and inviting — likely thanks to its clever layout of separate rooms and alcoves that provide a more intimate dining experience, all while maintaining a stylish and aesthetically pleasing design.
We were impressed by how modern, clean, and presentable everything was, yet it still retained traditional British pub charm, with features like a classic bar area and a lovely log fire. The bar area and outdoor seating area is also dog friendly, a real plus for us to know as we often travel with our fur kids.
The menu offered great variety, including a dedicated gluten-free menu, which was ideal for my mother. Free guest Wi-Fi is available, and the Vintage Inns app is a handy companion — with all menus, information, and even a loyalty scheme. We received £10 off our bill just for registering!
As for the food: I started with the chorizo sausages, which were absolutely delicious. My wife and mother both enjoyed the padron peppers, which were equally well received. For the main, I had the chicken parmigiana — perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Dessert was a baked vanilla cheesecake accompanied by an iced Biscoff coffee… at which point I entered a very content food coma.
Special mention must go to our server, Ellie, who was outstanding throughout. Friendly, fast, efficient, and kind enough to humour my awful jokes — she was a genuine highlight of the experience and a real credit to the business. Great service can make or break a visit, and in this case, it made it even more memorable. Give Ellie a pay rise!
Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend this pub. If you’re in the area and looking for somewhere to eat, you’d be mad not to stop in. I’m confident you’ll be...
Read moreGreat place, great food, great staff. Went for a big family get together pre Christmas and we all really enjoyed it. As we were a big group we were asked to pre order our food, most of us went for one of the roasts but not all of us so it was nice to have 'normal' menu options available as well as roasts. The service was excellent, we were offered sauces without having to ask and before and throughout the meal we were asked if we wanted more drinks. We were looked after by Ellie who was really helpful and efficient, she dealt with our various requests with a smile. The food was also really, I had a veg wellington roast that was lovely, roast potatoes were great, as was the Yorkshire and the veg, my other half had the trio of meat roast which he said was very good but he felt the beef was a bit bland, some of our group ordered the side order of cauliflower cheese and really enjoyed it. As a group we found we had the right amount of veg, but not enough gravy, however we asked for more gravy and were brought extra any without any questions. Some of us had puddings, it was great to have the mini pudding option with a hot drink too. Our only criticism of the puddings were those that were having custard had a very small amount and would have liked more but after asking for extra gravy we felt a bit too cheeky to ask for extra custard too. Toilets were nice and clean. Decor of the pub attractive and a good mix between traditional and contemporary. Summary highly recommended and Ellie...
Read moreI am a regular visitor to the New Mill, both for drinks and the restaurant, also to watch some of the sports they put on. On this occasion it was to meet up with my Son who had just returned from Uni for a couple drinks.
We were a bit late arriving so just before 9pm. But we're a bit surprised when last orders were called at about 9.30. This was followed by Time being called at approximately 10pm and a senior member of the bar staff proceded to turn off the TV's while people were watching the football which hadnt finished. Something I imagine they had come to the pub specifically to watch. We decided to leave and on our way out spotted the same bar staff sat on the customer side of the bar having a drink.
The lady who I believe was a senior member of staff also had a very bad attitude when I was trying to pay for a round when she insisted that the pay point she wanted me to scan was ready, when I explained it was blank, she couldn't be bothered to walk from her position to check. This woman has been quite rude in the past.
The pub was also freezing cold and people were sitting with their coats on despite there being two open fires made up but not lit.
We reconvened at another local pub who were still open and very friendly, with a very cosy atmosphere.
Gradually going off of this pub and will probably walk the extra 1/4 of a mile to the other one from now on. Very sad to see the New Mill go...
