This pub has been recommended to me many times but I had not been able to visit due to its limited opening days. I am pleased to report that it exceeded all expectations. Comfortable, clean, welcoming free house serving a good range of unpretentious ales at very reasonable prices. This pales alongside the food, which is hearty, wide-ranging, and offers several local game choices, incl. venison, pheasant and duck. I had a venison casserole, which was delicious and was accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables. Again, excellent and unpretentious. Best pub in West Dorset, and that's going some!

This was a great experience of Sunday lunch at an old English pub (free house actually). My wife tried the lamb roast with vegetables, accompanied by a half pint of light ale. Absolutely loved it! I tried venison sausages and mash, accompanied by a locally made raspberry lemonade - the kind pubs served when I was a boy. Both great. We would have tried their deserts, but no room left after the big main course. Husband and wife hosts were lovely and the regulars also made us feel welcome. Small word of caution- they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We spotted this on google maps while looking for somewhere to eat, and what a find! Lots of vegetarian choices, we went for broccoli and blue cheese pasta bake and macaroni cheese. Both came with home made garlic bread. It was superb, the tables were well booked by locals who obviously know a good thing! Atmosphere was homely and had the feel of a well loved local. Recommended... p.s. ladies check out the landladies cross stitch in the ladies loo.... beautiful!

My wife and I were lamenting the lack of good pubs in Dorchester- that used to have so many!- thanks to google we found the Blue Raddle which was just perfect. Excellent ale, nice homely/traditional decor, not too big, not too small, very friendly staff, nice cross-section of clientele, really nice proper pub atmosphere...everything good quality but no airs and graces. Special mention also for the food. We are vegetarians and the sunday menu offered 3 veggie choices; we had a delicious tomato nut-roast, which came with yorkshires/roast potatos etc etc. We were asked when ordering if we happened to be vegetarians, so they obviously made sure of veggie gravy etc, which is a really nice touch. I made sure to say thanks before leaving and the lady behind the bar said it was her own recipe. The price was very reasonable as well. We'll definitely be back next time we're in...

I do not get to go the pub enough at the best of times, when I do go, as a priority I always head here .

There is a great selection of beers ciders and real ales. The wine and spirits selection is pretty spot on to boot.

The atmosphere is lovely, very respectful with friendly staff and patrons always welcoming.

I have yet to try the food but the menu and the smell of the dishes that have passed me by have certainly made this a must.

Young Children are not permitted, but to be honest I think this is a good thing, not all free houses should be expected to cater for this. The pub is colloquial and traditional, walking through the front door brings upon a person a sigh of relief and lighter shoulders.

I cannot...

Always a treat going to the Blue Raddle, quite often pop in on a Thursday evening for a bite to eat and a pint.Food is always great, simple, home cooked, tasty and varied. It's not difficult, and it worries me how so many other pub's fail to get it right. No Juke box, just pleasant conversation from real people. The range of real ales and cider is really good and served in perfect condition. Had a good look at the gin selection this evening, this deserves a serious session. It's been the top beer pub in Dorchester for a long time and it's reputation is well deserved.. Just go and try it, you won't be...
