We visited today for some coffee. There is a Costa a few doors away, but decided to go with the smaller local business. We sat down and decided what type of coffee we were having and I queued up to order. One of the women was taking orders, the other making drinks. As it came to my turn, the assistant by passed me and served the couple behind me. I waited patiently until she had finished, when she again went further back to another customer. I asked whether I was invisible to which she said, what do you want? I said that I thought she was quite rude, but placed the order as there were other people in our party who were waiting. I took the drinks which weren't really good or hot and we left. If in hindsight I'd have known, I would have preferred the Costa. I thought giving the smaller business my custom, they would appreciate it, but I wouldn't ever bother again. Just out of interest, their pasties are around £5 each and they unashamedly cook them from frozen in front of the public. That's not fresh or worth it in...

We arrived just before 12 so in theory before lunchtime rush.

Seating area was probably 70% full but at least another 20% tables had not been cleared. I did find a seat and whilst waiting for my wife to return it was clear that the floors under tables were disgustingly dirty. There were so many tables to clear that there were no forks at the point meals were collected.

Furthermore when I returned to the cutlery area they still had not arrived. There was no spoons or knives either. When I raised concerns there was a laugh from behind the till. There were at least 3 others waiting.

Pasty was tasty but not too warm given the delay coffee was nice too.

Note toilets were not very clean and were in need of maintenance. Parts missing from the sink. Floor was disgustingly dirty.

So to conclude best to visit early in the morning when you stand a chance that the floors will be clean the food on offer will be hot and you stand a chance of...

After 1-2 really nice experiences here, my husband and I stopped for a coffee and a pasty on Sunday. The coffee was in a tiny cup and half full, tasted bitter and nasty. I topped it up with some cold water but it was still undrinkable. To make things worse my husband has had food poisoning for 3 days and counting after eating the pasty. It was the only thing we didn't eat the same for the whole weekend so we're quite certain it was that.

There is a seagull that frequently jumps on the table and eats leftovers and a pigeon nesting in a planter next to a table. With hygiene standards this low it's no wonder my husband got ill.

The cafe is beautiful but the staff are a mixed bag when it comes to customer service (and making coffee!) Having lived in Cornwall for 5 years I find the pasties disappointing with barely any meat or seasoning.

Overall the cafe has potential but I wouldn't recommend...

This is good coffee - at least the one I had, I believe Union beans - possibly a dark roast - and this is of course the most important thing isn't it? So the coffee is on a par with the King's Arms a short distance away ( Mozzo red label dark roast beans with filtered softened water) Love the quality and comfort of the chairs and interior spacing and of course the amazing decking and terrace out the back. I think the cakes, pasties are a little overpriced and although havn't tried a cake, did try a pasty and not sure I was overly impressed (but I'm not an expert) - certainly not equal to the Cornish pasty place that previously existed in Antelope Walk and I wouldn't say great value. However, I will give the pasties another go, I just thought it was perhaps too much pastry and not enough filling.

It's in a popular location and has a great modern interior and clever outside space with individual beach huts and a balcony. The food is lovely but the prices are high. I've always had to wait too long and sometimes people queue out the door. Atm they are training staff but I've not had the best coffee here and sent it back cold twice so I've swapped to tea. Other pet peeves are that it's very near the old beloved pasty shop that closed down but we've gotta get over that. The other annoyance is sitting under pictures of Cornish beaches when we have out own local spectacular Dorset beaches. I think they could personalise it a bit more.if you are lucky enough to get a seat you can pass away a happy time in here but you might have to queue for the loo aswell.
