I've been to the Drapers Arm (Wetherspoons) in Peterborough for various events, and I have to say, it deserves a solid four stars. It's a fantastic place to visit, mainly because it's close to the Peterborough Bus Station. It's perfect when waiting for the bus and wanting to grab a drink or two. It's your typical Wetherspoons experience, where you can order your food and drinks at the bar or through their phone app.
I did notice one thing, though. The tables there tend to be a bit sticky, probably from spilt drinks by previous customers. It can make you feel a little uncomfortable dealing with that stickiness. Another thing is that the place is quite dimly lit and lacks natural light. Some of the light bulbs are in serious need of replacement. On a positive note, I like that they offer options to adjust the brightness at individual tables. However, they are often full or still have glasses left behind by previous customers.
However, the historical tidbits they have on display caught my attention. They've posted information about the building's past, which I find fascinating. Can you believe that about 124 years ago, this unique building was built for Charles Armstrong? He was a draper and milliner, selling fancy clothes and hats. This place was his home for nearly a century! When they constructed the new building, Charles Armstrong moved his store here from another site called New Road. Over time, his store grew until it took over the entire building. And here's the significant part: five of his six children helped him run the store until he passed away in 1926. But that wasn't the end of the story! The store continued, evolving to sell carpets, curtains, and linens. It kept operating in this very building until around 1996. Isn't that simply...
Read moreI accompanied a group of friends into this establishment on Saturday 25th of May 2019 at approx 4pm for a meal as all 7 of us were hungry as we enjoyed our afternoon at the Fake Festival held at the Embankment in Peterborough. . We entered this pub and was greeted by a female who claimed to be in charge (manager).. As we were taken to our table I asked her "where is your public toilets in a kind manner" , her reply was harsh and direct "can't you read".. I was beyond mortified as too, my friends who heard and witnessed this situation unfold.. I requested that I speak to the manager over this response as I am wearing blackened glasses because I Do Have eyesight problems and to be addressed like that in your restaurant by someone I do not know, a restaurant in have not visited before and in need of the toilet due to my medication... I addressed this female of how horrendously rude she had been towards me as I simply asked for the toilet.. My friends and I was then refused the entry of this place of business. .... I felt the humiliation by this female member of staff.. Even reports coming back to me explains that this individual is equally horrendous to other staff and other customers before me....
I ask that this female manager of your business is dealt with in the most serious manner as this behaviour is not forgivable nor legally excusable. .... I will be awaiting to hear back from you and your Main HQ in regards to...
Read moreToday we visited the Drapers Arms to celebrate 3 special birthdays. We had ordered food and was enjoying shots and cocktails. We put an order through for 3 further drinks when a member of staff came over and told us they weren't serving us because firstly we had drinks already on the table and because we had rested our head on the table a few times. We explained we were not drunk and merely tired however, was still refused. Considering most days weatherspoon pubs are full of drunken people we were quite alarmed. Weatherspoons lost out as we left and went to a cocktail bar and continued drinking. We obviously will not visit this particular Weatherspoons in the future and will never recommend it. I'm 599 months old and NEVER been refused alcohol and I have been in some messy states in the past. Considering it is now 22.21 on the day a jobs worth refused to serve us I don't think we were/are intoxicated do you? 1 of our party has a medical condition called narcolepsy.......maybe the jobs worth needs to read about it and educate themselves. Remember not all disabilities are...
