Fantastic place. I've been here first time today and loved it a lot. Lovely coffee and amazing breakfast. Huge portion and small price which is rarely seen around the town. Cute decorations and nice old style. Can't wait to be back there again. Really surprised of bad reviews as the staff was nice and their instructions of not cooking after 2pm or different rules are absolutely fine. People tend to avoid reading and then they have objections over the place or they visit for 5 years and everything is fine and when once something bad happen they leave bad review. So if for 5 years everything is totally great and once the day is worse is it fair to leave a bad review? Don't think so. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. Nice to see a small business still running when there is plenty of haters around.

I am sorry to say it was the worst fish and chips we ever had in our lives. My husband I made a trip to beautiful city of Dorchester, by late afternoon we were starving and were looking for a traditional fish and chips. Saw the sign on The Gorge advertising home made tradition food. We ordered the food and were shocked when the food arrived. The fish were ready made frozen, out of packet, the frozen peas were shrivelled, the chips were ok. We were Very disappointed but forced it down because we were very hungry. Unfortunately later on we suffered as our stomach couldn’t digest the food. Totally waste of money.

Service poor, order at the till, but service very slow. Server clearly didn’t want to be there or serving anyone. While I was waiting so long, perused the row of greasy deep fat fryers behind the counter, and read the passive-aggressive signs everywhere! Somebody asked to use the loo, and the waitress took out a key to unlock the chain across the door! Food was okay when it came, and was cooked quicker than the till server took to make two coffees.

I have visited this cafe a number of times in the last 5 years - but I definitely won't be going back.

With my teenage grandchildren we popped in at 1.45pm on a Wednesday afternoon (end of July) for a drink and maybe a light snack.

It was fairly busy so we approached the counter only to hear the chef say "tell them to hurry up. I'm not cooking after 2pm".

So, we had a look at the snacks on offer, which didn't look very appetising (stale looking cupcakes, cereal bars and crisps), so we decided we would just have a drink instead.

As I began asking the kids what they wanted to order, another 2 people approached the counter, and again the chef snapped, " I am NOT cooking after 2 o'clock."

The woman behind the counter was obviously very stressed and snapped at both my family and the two people behind us "If you want food can you hurry up? Chef wants to get off work on time ". No please, no thank you. Just abrupt.

With that I told her we would go somewhere else, as did the elderly couple behind us. She and the chef then began bickering about us all leaving.

Normally, the service in there is brilliant - polite and friendly staff, food cooked to perfection and they continually ask if everything it alright and offer to bring your drinks or food to the table.

I don't know what has happened since my previous visit around 6 months ago, but my goodness I shall not go back again to be treated so badly.

I will always use independent cafes where possible, but next time I'm in Dorchester, I think I shall go to Costa. At least I know to expect shoddy...

Where do i start? the staff are some of the rudest people i’ve ever met and shouted at my poor 4 year old for being too ā€œloudā€ we had sat somewhere at the back away from people so no one around and his eyes filled up with tears as he was so embarrassed. I have never been to a place with the most disgusting miserable lazy and damn right rude people in my life. Will never return and this is a family run restaurant. one consistent thing is they all look like they’ve been chewing on sour lemons and wouldn’t know customer service if it smacked them round the chops which is safe to say they deserved after embarrassing and belittling a tiny child. I wish i could put into words how much i regret entering this run down cafe that day simply for the memory i have of seeing my little boys face. wish could give under 1 star but that’s lowest i can give. Plus, the food doesn’t make up for it. AVOID...
