Well what can I say....The Jade has new management and the decor has stayed the same. The menu has changed slightly so we thought let's see if it can live up to its amazing reputation under the old management.
Let me tell you now......it doesn't come anywhere near as good.
It's started off well but then you notice the quality of food was standard compared to the near perfection under the old Jade. When it came to the main, we had ordered a set menu for 2 so being 4 of us you would expect double of what we got served.....we didn't. It was only when we received our pathetic excuse for a main course (which a couple could polish off very easy) we questioned the staff who told us it was for 4?? So when we started to complain, the manager told us that the chef had made a mistake and was cooking off the wrong ticket? We were offered more food but we declined and asked for it to be deduced from the bill.
Now when the bill turned up, there was a deduction, but for £5!! So my question to them was 'so you're telling me that that food that didn't come out was only worth £5'?? Again the manager told me it was a 'mistake' with the deduction and went away. This time she came back with a £20 reduction which was better but then I noticed that one of the extra portions I had ordered, I was being charged more than double?? So I questioned the manager on that as well. Again there was an excuse, this time it's was because her daughter took the order???
Now because of the debacle of the bill at the end, it seriously cemented the fact that I will never eat there again. I have had some wonderful evenings there but this place is now living off its old reputation, still charging high quality prices for standard, low key takeaway food that you can get from your local corner takeaway. Don't get me wrong I love Chinese takeaway, have done for years but paying over the nose for it, and nearly getting ripped off at the end to get extra money out of me, I won't stand for.
Good luck to them and whoever decides to frequent there. I for one...
Read moreAs it's a little out of the centre of town The Jade may be only known to the locals but it is worth finding. The previous owner was renowned for his serving and deboning of fresh sea bass in ginger and soya sauce and the new owners have carried on the same menu and service. Eating at The Jade is like a trip back to the Chinese restaurants when they first arrived. Horse shoe seating, Chinese bhuddas with Green and Red decor. The one thing which could be improved is the decor from the outside and entrance door. It does not look welcoming at all, however don't let that out you off the food and service inside. Worth seeking..and make sure you ask for the...
