We couldn't afford to go into the Cathedral so I thought we could make a donation by paying a visit to their café. The entrance is well sign posted but we initially missed the stairs on the left which takes you up to the dog friendly seating. There is a lift for those who might need it.The very nice toilets are located on the right. It's a very nice room and they offer simple fare at reasonable prices. It wasn't busy but that can quickly change We had coffee and cake but unfortunately my Victoria sponge was very dry and the fillings were thinner than a bus ticket, it wasn't pleasant. The wife didn't do much better with her elderflower and something cake. Portion wise she got the runt of the litter. There's a small selection of quality drinks in the fridge and as it was a warm day I thought I would try a relatively local beer. This was the highlight of my visit. Lots of large tables in the room were occupied by couples which is always annoying but I couldn't see any tables for two so I guess they had no other choice. The table cleaning lady was the most engaging member...
Read moreA lovely place for a pit stop after visiting Wells cathedral today (although access can also be gained without going through the main cathedral entrance). It's quite a while since we've been, so we shunned the coffee shop chains to support local enterprise. It's light and airy, prettily decorated and the beautifully made cakes and slices on offer definately attracted our attention. The catering staff are lovely and hot drinks and food are delivered to your table once ordered, so no hanging around the counter. This gives time to relax, soak in the atmosphere and if you sit by either window, enjoy the stunning view over the Bishops Palace moat or towards the giant magnolia in the Palace grounds (in full bloom today!). It would be easy to overlook this lovely place amongst the other eateries vying for attention but it deserves a visit and we'll definitely make a determined effort to go back sooner than later. Oh by the way, the cakes were delicious and the coffee was good and hot, just...
Read moreWe hired the loft for my daughter's christening reception last weekend. I wanted to say a big thank you for helping us to have such a lovely day. The venue is decorated beautifully and there were lovely flowers on every table, the bunting and fairy lights are just lovely too. The food provided was faultless and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Our cake supplier let us down last minute so we had no christening cake, the staff at the loft put together a cake for us within an hour, which was so kind of them, they really went above and beyond. I will definitely use the venue again in the future and highly recommend them....
