My partner and I who are new to Wells came to look around the town before we moved to get a feel for where we were moving to. We are both artists so have an interest in what's on offer as far as local artists in the area. We are both very nice, unassuming people who wanted to browse the shop to see if there was anything that struck our fancy for our new place, and as a way to view beautiful local art. As we were browsing a woman says to us that "she'd be really impressed if we bought something". I just responded with "I'd love to" as I was slightly taken aback by the comment. I ignored it and continued to look around the shop, then another gentleman walked in and she said it again in front of us and him. We left and I haven't been back since. If anyone ever asked me about the art shops in Wells I certainly wouldn't be able to say anything too positive about this one, and I only like to say nice things. It's bad form, I'm afraid. Guilt tripping people into buying things is a terrible tactic, and I've own my own business and is certainly not the way to conduct it. I look like a young person for my age, but you should never make a generalization or comment like that. I walk past it often and feel sad that I can't go back in, in fear of being ridiculed...
Read moreCalled in to the A2 gallery for a browse and was pleasantly surprised by how this has been revived and updated to provide a splendid exhibition of pieces from local artists and artists further afield. It is well worth a visit. It offers art lovers a variety of subject matter and techniques: pottery, sculpture, watercolour, acrylic, oil, collage, and print all beautifully displayed within a gallery that's much larger on the inside than the outer appearance suggests.
