Awful experience we ended up with rapid onset bacterial food poisoning. My partner and I both ate exactly the same meal and fell ill a few hours later with exactly the same symptoms. I asked Google Gemini about this and the following is the reply. It's certainly very suspicious that you and your partner experienced exactly the same symptoms, including diarrhea that felt like a laxative, after eating the same meal in a restaurant. While it's impossible to say definitively without medical investigation, here's a breakdown of why this scenario strongly points to a foodborne illness, and addresses your question about "tampering": Why it's likely a foodborne illness (food poisoning): Shared Meal, Shared Symptoms: This is the classic hallmark of food poisoning. When multiple people who consume the same food develop similar symptoms around the same time, it strongly suggests a common source of contamination in that food. Rapid Onset ("like a laxative"): Some types of food poisoning, particularly those caused by certain bacterial toxins (like Staphylococcus aureus or Bacillus cereus), can cause very rapid onset of symptoms, sometimes within a few hours or even less. This can indeed feel like a sudden, forceful evacuation, similar to a laxative effect. Restaurant Setting: Restaurants, while generally safe, are points of mass food preparation. If one ingredient is contaminated or if proper food handling/storage procedures are not followed, it can easily affect multiple patrons. Could it be "tampering"? The term "tampering" can have different meanings. Accidental contamination/mishandling (most common): This is the most likely scenario in a restaurant. It's not malicious but rather an oversight in food safety. This could include: Improper cooking temperatures: Not cooking food thoroughly enough to kill bacteria. Cross-contamination: Raw ingredients touching cooked food or surfaces. Poor hygiene: Staff not washing hands properly. Improper storage: Food left at unsafe temperatures, allowing bacteria to multiply. Contaminated ingredients: A raw ingredient (like produce or meat) arriving at the restaurant already contaminated. We were advised to report this incident Report it: If you suspect food poisoning from a restaurant, it's important to report it to the local health authorities (e.g., your local council's environmental health department in the UK). This allows them to investigate and prevent...
Read moreWalked in as a family of 5 to be seated and were told we could sit anywhere as the restaurant was not so busy at the time. We went to a table of 4 and pulled a seat to the end only to be told we couldn’t do that and so were instructed to sit at the back of the restaurant less than 1m from the food serving hatch on a 25° Day where the restaurant was not busy. The staff were noticeably unhappy and some were using the restaurant as their break. One positive was that the staff were very thorough with an allergy which we had. Our food came thankfully quite quickly and was clearly fresh however the manager who delivered our food shouted out our order interrupting our conversation. A member came back to check up on us in the middle of our meal and we wanted to order some drinks however the waiter stated this was not possible due to the company’s policy of bar service only (we were not prepared to get up in the middle of our meal to order further drinks). It was sad for us to see so many members of staff chatting at the bar when they could have made money by taking a drinks order. We were so despondent with the negative atmosphere and the lack of willingness from the staff that we chose not to order any drinks from the bar and finished our meals and left promptly. The staff were polishing cutlery in the restaurant as well as brashly rinsing baby chairs which could have been done away from customers. Such a shame we felt unvalued as clearly the kitchen were organised and deserved praise. I feel the company policy should be reviewed, why would you not be able to give service of a round of drinks and...
Read moreInteresting eatery. Dogs are welcome here. Sunday morning. Sign stating "wait to be seated" however, no staff were visible. Asked at the bar if we were OK to take a table, we were questioned about allergies, which we don't have, then were encouraged to take a seat and return to order at the counter. As a family of four, we ordered the large breakfast, egg on toast, pancakes with maple syrup x 2 and drinks. Paid approx. £47. Not a particularly long wait for service and we were entertained by the decor. Large breakfast good size plate. Beans were quite small and the bread used for toast was overly toasty. Nothing special about the sausage. The eggs were tasty. The egg on toast was a tragedy. One egg on one slice of toast. We didn't request a child's portion however, I'm assuming this is what we received? The one little egg was, happily, very tasty and perfectly cooked. I cannot stress enough how the toast served with breakfast is sadly hard, cold and very disappointing. The pancakes were delicious. Sadly the bacon was chewy as opposed to crisp and the ramekins for maple syrup were half empty and chipped. Nice coffee. After eating we used the toilets to wash hands and noted water available at the bar in taps available for the customers to help themselves. Return visitors may be aware of this, however, it would be useful to inform new customers on arrival. Would we return? Perhaps for the pancakes or to sample other items on the menu...would give anything incorporating toast...
