In general this place has a good atmosphere & is a nice place to sit & watch the world go by, the vintage decor is also very pleasant.

The handful of occasions I’ve been here I usually order a jacket potato with cheese on first, then tuna mayo on top. I always ask for extra butter to go on the jacket potato as well before the cheese goes on (I literally describe the order of toppings to the waitress).

Every time I receive my dish, they put the butter (foil sachets from the fridge) next to the potato instead of on it. It would seem pretty obvious that if a customer asks for butter on their jacket potato that it needs to go on the actual potato in order for it to melt in!

The customer should not & does not want to have to scoop off the toppings on the potato to then put the butter on themselves.

Why didn’t I complain you ask? Sending food back usually takes time to rectify the issue, like reheating the dish or adding/removing something, the customer then has to sit & wait a while without eating, whilst their friend/family member carries on eating theirs which just ruins the occasion, so sometimes people just put up with the issue & carry on, which in this case was what I chose to do.

This happened the other day when I went in there & ordered the above food. The potato was also barely lukewarm & the tuna had no mayo mixed with it at all. I was very hungry & was with a friend who was also eating, so I just ate it for the sake of stopping my hunger.

All in all, The Remedy Tea Shop is a nice place & I’d like to say I’ll return there again at some point, but I don’t think I will anymore. I understand most people that go in there probably enjoy their food & compliment it to staff, but for me personally I just don’t enjoy it & the last few occasions...

Visited the tea room in Hockley garden centre today as I’ve previously been to the shop in Southend which was lovely. Rude is all I can say. I walked in and it appeared the lady behind the counter was in a bit of a bad mood (think another customer had just sent a drink back), she left me standing for ages without even acknowledging me. When she finally asked what i would like, I asked if dogs were allowed inside, she said no which is obviously fair enough but then had to sit at a dirty table outside. I asked for a menu, she said she would send it out…why couldn’t she hand me a menu.. anyway, I went back to my table then a few minutes later another girl came out with the menus. After deciding what we would like, I went back in and joined the queue. When it came to my turn to be served she told me to go back to my table and wait to be served there! Why??? I went back to my table and waited but nobody came out so we left without ordering. I work in this industry and would not want staff like this letting down my business. I won’t be returning to this branch again.

This is your establishment. I just checked on Facebook, the Hockley branch is just a branch of your main shop...

We were so happy to finally return to sit down inside a cafe and feel some return to normality this morning (17th May 2021) However, I think they must have forgotten how to make cappuchino coffee and prepare toast! Toast looked like it had only glanced at the toaster was barely browned, and capp was very hot as ordered, but also was shockingly watery not even a taste of coffee, was very, very weak! Didn't send it back as we didn't want to make a fuss and quite frankly were just so happy to be able to sit and chat to each other. But when waitress came to clear the table we did comment on how terrible the coffee was. The response was 'mention it when you come in again'? Are they joking.....🤔 UPDATED REPLY to the owner response below.....As I said we were just so happy to be out in a cafe for once. However, its your opinion my review was not justified, I think it was. The girl did briefly 'chat' only to ask if we had finished, so she could whisk the dishes away! We DID tell her regarding the coffee, and it was a foreign girl who made the statement which we obviously misunderstood. This still does not...

Ok, the tea shop is quaint with a nice tranquil atmosphere, generally crowded with the older generation. A place that contrast with the ugliness of Southend high street. A lot of choice on the menu and a few Specials...the service was ok, neither friendly nor rushed. Food was ok but not great, our specials (£7.50 each) came with crumbs of crisps rather than crisps, avocado on toast was scarce and sadly the orange juice is not fresh but from concentrate.

A great little cafe with a lot of character on the inside right in the middle of Southend high street. They offer a lot of choice for breakfast or lunch! Gets quite busy but service is swift and efficient. We opted for poached eggs for our brunch they were cooked just right with the insides runny. Only negative was there could have been a bit more hollandaise sauce to go with the Benedict and Royale.

The Remedy tea shop is a cute little cafe in South End. We stopped here for brunch on a lovely Saturday morning (no booking required). We got seated immediately, and the lovely Kinga too our orders. Food and drinks came out quickly. It was well cooked and nicely presented. Portion sizes were very generous. Good food, a nice atmosphere, and a few laughs - exactly what the Dr ordered.
