Bit disappointed with our visit yesterday. It wasn't what we expected from what we thought should have been a lovely experience in a beautiful building. However, it's looking very tired outside and inside, and not in a shabby chic way! Green King needs to spend some money. The tables are worn out and were not looking clean. The ladies toilet was not clean and smelled ( I didn't go in but was told this by my better half). The whole place unfortunately feel worn out. For what should be a prestigious building and the pride in Green King's portfolio, is however Wetherspoonesk! I ordered a pint of Green King IPA, which was off, smelling and tasting bad. I took it back and was offered another beer, I had a Wye Valley which was good. The barman said he would check out the IPA. But, as we were leaving, about half hour later, there was someone else complaining about their pint of IPA! They had obviously carried on serving bad Green King beer! We had a Chocolate Brownie Sunday as we fancied something sweet. It only had one scoop of ice cream and two large slabs of browny, no love had gone into it at all. It was very hard to eat. Just some care when making would have made it nice. Cut up the browny, and some more ice-cream is all it would take. I do hope the management and Green King take note of this review. We live locally and The Royal is and could be a place for local and tourists to enjoy. It just...
Read moreStaff were lovely. Food was great including the vegan burger. My partner who is vegetarian said it was best he has ever had. We normally shoot off to eat but we're happy to have 3 meals there.
Chill atmosphere, family friendly and dog friendly. Marvellous terrace to sit out on and very big. Very well situated with town and the excellent church next door which you should not miss!! but with a small car park and no lift it was a bit of a struggle with the cases to that 3rd floor.
Pillows were plump and comfy which was lovely as everywhere we stay they are normally flat! The room was massive & the adjacent room with the TV was lovely to give us all our space but togetherness at the same time.
It was how ever boiling in the night and a room that size should have free standing or ceiling fans. Could not get a fan in the adjoining room as they did not have an extension lead. Some cleanliness issues like the skirting boards and the window ledges. Also the extraction fan in the bathroom wasn't working so the heat was unbearably awful when bathing.
We informed staff member of the issues we had and they took money off our stay which was very nice of them. If they are sorted we would definitely...
Read moreI went to the hotel for breakfast with my family. The hotel is perched on top of the Ross rock and as it is a relatively old building it has a bit of old world charm. I think it was nicely decorated in keeping with the building - if you modern boutique it is not the place for you. There is a lovely balcony/terrace that has spectacular views over the river Wye - in good weather you can eat out there. Unfortunately it was not good weather when I visited.
Staff were helpful, mostly efficient and friendly. Our booked table was ready and our orders were taken in a timely manner. The food was delivered without too much of a wait but unfortunately some of the orders were wrong; however, the orders were corrected with out fuss once we pointed out the issues. Several of our group were vegetarians and these were catered for with nice alternatives. The food itself was of good quality and the 'fried' breakfasts were not greasy, for me I would have liked slightly more 'special' sausages.
The prices were reasonable given the nice location and the quality of the food. I will be more than happy to go back, perhaps to stay overnight but definitely to take advantage of the...
